EASY BREAKFAST NOOK IDEAS
Enjoying a morning coffee is one of the perks of an empty nest.
No last-minute lunches, permission slip emails, or searches for a shoe.
Somehow, someone always misplaced one shoe.

Now … I want a cozy breakfast nook to start my day.
Like most ideas brewing in my head, I start with Pinterest.
I spend the predawn hours in my breakfast nook, drinking coffee and listening to a random Netflix show or podcast.
When thinking about an update nook, the size and shape of the table must be considered.
THE KITCHEN TABLE
Do you have a round, square, or rectangular kitchen table? Our kitchen nook works with a rectangular table and a round table with a metal base.
Most people would be thrilled with the flexibility of a kitchen table.
But for me, it means one too many choices.
For the sake of my sanity and because we are empty nesters, I committed to a round table with a pedestal base.
I love it. The space is cozy for 90 % of the year, and we migrate to the dining room for the holidays.

Our kitchen nook sits in the corner with three slider windows on two exterior walls.
We replaced the windows with broken thermal seals during Home Depot’s annual window sale in January/February.

WHAT I DISCOVERED
I was surprised by how much I missed the item I had removed from the kitchen nook.
My goal was to have a quiet nook with four chairs, a table, and a new light fixture.
My fear of not having a kitchen table or 40 yards of Christmas garland motivated many of my pandemic purchases.
I sold this white Pottery Barn knockoff kitchen table with a pedestal base just before my boys returned for a mid-March break.
I ordered the smallest (cheapest) round table during the pandemic because my comfort food and coffee needed a cozy table in our kitchen nook.
I found the round table and matching chairs at Pottery Barn. I ordered the cheapest and smallest option.
Now? I miss everything I had in my original nook, especially the cozy feel of the window treatments and cushions.
I miss the window treatments and the upholstered chairs.
Our wood chairs look and feel like they belong in the family section of a restaurant that serves beer and a buffet, and where everyone knows our names.
. Practical but not warm and cozy.
I added a set of seat cushions from HomeGoods that propped me up four inches.

I think I found a few ideas to tweak my breakfast nook without breaking my budget! Here is one more that caught my eye. This is for a small kitchen nook or for a one—or two-person household (most days of the year).
The window treatments define the space and add warmth.
