HOW TO ORGANIZE PAPER DOCUMENTS

With the school year looming around the calendar it is the perfect season to review all the paper files.

My kids are out of the house, but I have copies of immunizations and school certificates. I know.

There are the grade school diplomas and the thank you cards.

The kids don’t want it.

My mom didn’t want the dozens and dozens of cards the kids sent her and my dad.

In fact mh mom droppedyears of thank you cards on our front porch!

WIth my kids responsible for their own forms and files it was time to tackle my paper documents.

And, to elminate my stickies!

  • passwords stickies scattered on my desk
  • photos
  • appliance manuals no longer in service a home or appliance warranty.
  • immunization and medical records (they still print a copy).
  • Perennial Receipts in case they don’t survive the first frost!

Raise you hand if you have paper copies that include:

receipts

  • family recipesh
  • travel iteneraries
  • postcards
  • thank you notes!
  • Here is a tip for what to do with thank you notes.
  • I did this with my thank you notes).
FILE FOLDERS TO ORGANIZE THE PAPER FILES

This year, my goal is to organize my files and paper trails in both my personal and professional life.

I have most of my files saved in folders in Dropbox or Google Drive.

If you still want paper folders I found these cute folders.

As I audit our expenses it may get consolidated with another password app!

QUESTION What is your favorite app to save passwords?

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU CAN’T FIND

My computer stresses out the boys in my life.

My youngest breaks into a sweat when either me or his auntie Tricia text him for technical support.

My middles use the “printer analogy” with me.

“Mom if something is not working don’t continue to hit “print.”

PRINTER IN A HOME OFFICE

It is probably time for me to toss my kids’ immunization records the their swim team ribbons.

TURBOSCAN BENEFITS

Turbo Scan allows me to save documents directly to my Dropbox or Google drive.

What I like about Turboscan is it captures a receipt, document and keeps a copy on the app.

So if I misplace the pdf I have a back up on TurboScan.

My kids would argue that I just need to take a photo, but photos get deleted when I am sitting in the parking lotwaiting for a prescription.

favorite) and/or email a copy in a pdf format to my email or to the recipient.Turboscan retains a copy.

My husband first shared this app with me a few years ago.

And, I use it for work and personal.

And, if you are just a smidge like me, your desk (my command center) begins to look like this.

TURBOSCAN APP INSTRUCTIONS

  • Take a photo inside the app. It takes 3 photos.
  • Next the app prompts if you want to email or save as pdf.
  • I always save as a pdf & send to my email. This allows for a seamless file share for work or personal use.

I regularly use this app for home repair receipts, vaccination updates.

Oh and the best part is when someone needs me to email a copy of somthing (rarely these days) but it still happens. Now I justsend a pdf via Turbo Scan.

I just pile up the paper until a new season rolls around to get organized.

Clear the clutter by snapping a photo of the paper, document.

It’s more professional because it saves it as a pdf for clients, the front office or service providers.

TURBOSCAN TIP

The one suggestion I have with this app is to turn off the overhead light above the document or receipt. The light can add a shadow to the document.

After a week using this app, I ditched my fax/scanner (donated to one of my son’s teachers).

TurboScan is the best iPhone app for the new year. Let me know if you download it and what you think?
