Spring is in the air here in Colorado! I cleaned my car (took it to the car wash) only to drive into our garage and “tap” a storage tub filled with Christmas lights and garland.

My Goodwill boxes are lined up along the garage wall.

That line began in January. So today is a gentle reminder that spring is a great time to clean up the garage. Whether you are downsizing or just want to reclaim your garage parking spot.

STEPS TO CLEAN THE GARAGE

I like to haul most of the bulky items to the driveway. Items include:

garbage and recycle bins
plastic bins filled with Christmas lights & paint tarps
garden tools, mulch
patio cushions
PAINT SUPPLIES
Take an inventory of your paints. Some of you probably have the original interior or exterior paint colors. Keep it for buyers so they can color-match. If it is dried out, keep the paint can lid and mark where the paint color was used. The color code is usually on the top of the paint can.
Safely dispose of paints at Home Depot, Sherwin-Williams. Call ahead to confirm details.
I have clear bins to store all my paint supplies.
I am always finding things to paint. There was the time I painted our kitchen island before carpool pickup.

My goal is to sweep and hose down the garage floor.

If you have a garage fridge, this is a good time to give it a good scrub. Since starting Pat’s tip, I can almost see the lower space in our garage fridge!

Clean the workbench. Sort nails and screws in clear mason jars or labeled recycled cottage cheese containers.

Rinse the floor and any entry rugs. I am always amazed at how much dust ends up on our garage floor.

Touch up your garage entry door if you painted it. I painted mine when I decided to clean the garage entry.
