I see a lot when showing homes to potential buyers. It is always a topic of conversation at our quarterly Realtor “support group” happy hour -there is always something that cannot be unseen. ;0) Which is why I ask—is your boxspring showing?

But one of the easiest fixes, with a big impact, is this boxspring tip.

Check out your box spring if you have a guest room or spare bedroom.
If you ditched the box spring for a bed in a bag, this tip works for you!
Sometimes, we plan to do something, and then we forget.
Or, if you are like me and have adulting boys, you can forward this tip to them.
Seeing an exposed boxspring is like wearing a bathrobe to the mailbox.
It is preventable and an easy, inexpensive fix.
An exposed mattress or box spring makes the room look unfinished. It’s like arriving at a showing and seeing an unmade bed.
A bare box spring has the same effect.
It makes you start to think about other things, which is why this list is popular.
Like most of my tips, they are based on a problem and a solution.
I was faced head-on with an exposed boxspring minutes before my photographer met me at a house I listed.
I got to a secondary bedroom and what to my horrified eyes did I see but a bare boxspring.
In a pinch, I pulled the comforter over the edge of the side that would be photographed.
It became a talking point with sellers, especially when you see teenage bedrooms where you just ask for a laundry bin and toss everything into it before the photographer arrives.

- Buy a flat or fitted sheet the size of the bed.
- If you prefer not to wrestle a fitted sheet between the mattress and the box, proceed to #3.
- Use a flat sheet and tuck it between the mattress and the box spring.
- In a pinch for time, add it the sheet to the side that guests or buyers may see.
That’s it! Problem solve! And remember to always start your day by making your bed.
