CHECK OUT THESE TIPS FOR PUFFY EYES

If you are a subscriber to The Weekend Edit, I shared my dermatologist’s suggestion for puffy eyes on Saturday.

For those expecting a DIY tip, this post is the exception to my usual home and tips! Today is about puffy eyes and what we can (and can’t) do for them.

Apparently, dermatologists and surgeons frown upon lifting it and sitching the puffy eye area. That was my suggestion.

These suggestions were explained to me during a Zoom call with an eye surgeon. I had inquired about just a lift and a stitch.

Apparently, puffy eyelids are a symptom of various factors.

WHAT CAUSES PUFFY F PUFFY EYES

During my Zoom call with the surgeon ( I was taking up too much time with the office manager), he explained that the following factors are most likely the causes of the puffy space below the eye and just a smidge above the cheek.

POTENTIAL CAUSES

  • seasonal allergies
  • dust
  • alcohol
  • fatigue
  • altitude
  • hormones
  • salt
  • smoking
  • flying
  • His list provided over the phone was lengthy, and I was mentally adding a check mark to everything he listed, with the exception of smoking.
  • I was surprised to learn that changes in altitude (a trip to the mountains) can cause puffy eyes.
  • Which suggests my eyes never had a chance to escape the puffy, allergy-looking eyes.

Living in Colorado, most of us live above 5280 (mile high), so if all else fails, I need to move to the Midwest or NYC.

PUFFY EYE SUGGESTIONS

The surgeon and the front desk team suggested I try a combination of options to reduce the puffy space above my cheek but below my lash line.

** Disclaimer: Follow up with your health care provider. These suggestions were from a board-certified cosmetic eye (only) surgeon.

His suggestions are over-the-counter purchases and/or lifestyle changes.

  • Preparation H (yes, I almost made my husband run into Walgreens to buy it, but I needed a flu shot, so I boldly went inside to aisle 9.

  • That is an entirely different blog post, but asking for help (there are a dozen options) was like a scene from a sitcom.
  • Preparation H is applied directly to the area where the eye is puffy (just above the cheek)- no pun intended. We are talking bout the face!
  • Preparation H towlettes. Just wipe the towelette over the puffy area.

Witch Hazel (my sister told me the witch hazel it didn’t work for her eyes).

We have the same issue.

However, my sister suggests this eye concealer.

I just ordered it, so I will report back.

Finally, my eye guy did say that it is a matrix of causes and a process of trial and error.

I just don’t want to give up chips and salsa, happy hour, queso, air travel, or pretzels.

Please share in the comments your suggestions, products, or lifestyle changes that worked for reducing the puffy eye look below the lower lash line.

Thanks for stopping by today for this week’s Tuesday Tip.

This puffy eye tip is an exception to most of my home-related tips.
