WHY YOU NEED A WHITE BLOUSE

This tip had to be spelled out in the title because it is the best wardrobe addition to your closet. If you add one item to your closet, choose a white blouse.

There are a few conditions.

The blouse must be white and have a collar.

It will not be a budget breaker.

Amazon has several options for white blouses for under $20.00.

If you don’t like buttons, you can buy a blouse without buttons.

A white blouse. works for working women, retirees, semi-retirees, grandmas, and 30-something-year-olds.

Side note: Who remembers the show Thirty Something?

This blouse tip comes from one of my son’sfriend’s mom when the boys were in high school. She must have observed my go-to gingham and J.Crew Factory choices. I was in a wardrobe rut.

She pulled me aside with what is now this week’s Tuesday Tip.

She told me: everyone needs to have at least one white-collared, button-down shirt in their wardrobe.

That’s it.

She said a white cotton (or a cotton variation) instantly looks pulled together.

Was she telling me I wore too much gingham print?

Or was I in a middle-age rut?

What am I waiting for?

I have multiple white blouses. But I tend to keep them in the closet for a “special occasion.” I am not sure why I did not wear them.

I forgot about this mom’s suggestion until I was reminded of this tip when I

wore a white-collared shirt to a doctor’s appointment.

UNEXPECTED FEELING IN A WHITE-COLLARED SHIRT

I felt pretty.

I looked pulled together. More importantly, I felt put together.

I was comfortable and put together.

And then I showed up for an eye appointment and met the eye doctor.

She was exactly in the middle of my daughter’s age and mine.

And she said,

“I have to ask: is this a typo on your birthdate?

Okay, I just made that question up.

She did not say that.

But she did say, “You do not look like you are … (closer to sixty than fifty).

I think it was the blouse.

Let me know if you have a love-or-hate relationship with white blouses or collared shirts!

Speaking of collared shirts, did you see this tip?

  1. Ya know what? I think I do NEED a white blouse!
    Tuck them in, right?
The one listed on Amazon……any idea if it is see through? Crossing fingers it isn’t as I don’t care to add a layer under it.
And I always check to see if they are machine washable. So many times I love something and then check after I wore it….oops! hand wash
    no, thanks

  2. Laura,
Okay, I might buy one, as I totally know what you mean about it looking clean, crisp, and put together. I always had a problem with it coming untucked. I am going to your suggestion now and checking it out. Can’t beat the price!
