PASSWORD DRAMA
I have tried the password apps but if I forget my username and/or password no amount of security is going to get me logged into the HBO account. If this sounds like you this password tip is perfect for you.
Every time I wait for confirmation of my favorite color or my childhood best friend’s name I relive this Amazon phone conversation.
SIMPLE IDEA
This is a simple tip because sticky notes are a bandaid to the problem. At some point, the adhesive back will fail and the sticky note might as well be in the trash. And you will not be able to recall the sign-in credentials to Netflix.
STEPS
Here are the steps. to remember a password.
Take out your phone and scroll to the contacts section.
- Add the account name (you can disguise it or name it something funny like ‘botox.”
- Next, under your “botox” contact add your password.
- This is great for shared accounts where families borrow login details for streaming devices or reward miles.
- It is a quick text for the password followed by a response.
- Most sites/providers have layers of password protection. But if I don’t know my user ID I likely don’t remember my password. And this takes me through a mind-numbing 20 minutes to reset both the user and password.
- And by the time I logged in to a site, I forgot why I was logging into my Zappos account from 1999.
BONUS ROUND
Here is a bonus password tip compliments of this son. In his year of being our roommate, he worked part-time for an engineering firm and was tasked with helping teams log into their computers.
His tip was simple: To create a new password use a phrase you use frequently.
If you add a symbol on the front and back end of that phrase it is even better.
I asked him if the bots get tired after crawling through a phrase (aka a password).
I thought it was a funny question.

I think I’d forget what contact name was for what but this is a good idea!
This is how I do password, obviously a clever AI-enabled person could figure this out. But it will stop the thief who steals my phone. That’s my “logic”
I partially put contact name and password partially from one of my beloved, dead pets. Most people will not know my former pets name or DOB
So chewy account contact and Pw as Snorkel who was born 1980, I put contact name as Yvonne Chew, child’s name “Sn—-$$80”
