EASY YARD CLEAN UP TIPS FOR FALL
Have you noticed the night sky? The sun sets earlier every night. It is 8:00pm, MST and it is dark outside. Fall is coming, but there are still sunny skies with warm weather. This is a good time to get your eyes on the yard and a head start on an end-of-summer cleanup.
My dad is rolling his eyes that I am sharing yard clean-up tips.
I landed my first job after protesting summer yard work.
Every spring and fall, I walk the yard to get a visual of :
- mulch touchups
- abandoned yard tools
- rocks kicked out of their “beds”
- planters
- lanterns and pathway lighting.
It is like a scavenger hunt in your yard or on your patio. This time of year, I often find shovels in abandoned garden beds or gardening gloves that have lost their partner over the summer.
SIMPLE CHECK LIST FOR END OF SEASON YARD CLEANUP
- Walk your yard, front porch, and/or back patio.
- Make notes for next spring so you are ready to go!
- Did you know Home Depot delivers mulch and/or offers customer pickup options?
- Clean out garden beds.
Schedule to have your sprinklers blown out. Coordinate with neighbors to get a discount
Remove the clutter in the corners of the yards, near patios, gates, or sheds.
I add a wreath to my side gate ( for my neighbors to see).
5. Clean and store hummingbird feeders. My feeders tend to get clogged.
6.Make these bird cakes for fall and winter bird treats.
The squirrels will invite themselves to the party.
7. Cover patio furniture and store it in a shed or garage. We continue to argue over squatter rights with the squirrels.
8. Check your exterior lighting. I use these solar lights for our side yard walkway!
Fall is a good time to clean out your window wells. I painted mine a few years ago and routinely refresh them with a can os spray paint.
Make a checklist this fall for spring plans. Take photos of your yard if you plan to add perennials or shrubs next spring.
