WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THIS VINTAGE TOOL BOX
I found my husband’s grandfather’s vingtage metal toolbox. It was hiding behind a cabinet in the garage behind three plastic toolboxes.
His maternal grandfathers grew up in a Czech community in Wilber, Nebraska. He was a soybean farmer and the owner of a lumber mill.
He was the Lars Hanson of Wilber.
This dented, metal toolbox was living an unfulfilled life and was destined for a repurposed life in honor of his Nebraska grandfather.
My husband’s grandfathers were both influential in my husband’s life and this toolbox is a great way to honorhis maternal grandfather’s legacy.
After much thought and relocations, this metal toolbox earned a front-row seat on our front porch.
REPURPOSED VINTAGE TOOLBOX
Our front porch gets moderate light during the day and I am on the front porch more than the backyard so it was easy access myfresh basil and cilantro.
After a few coats of different paint colors ( like this faovrite blue) I used our exterior trim paint color. It matched the freshly painted front door and the wrought iron spindles we installed.
TOOLBOX TO HERB GARDEN
With a freshly painted toolbox I prepped it for the herbs I bought at Kroger.
- I lined the bottom of the toolbox with an outer flap from acardboard box
- Added pebbles from the yard
- add soil and herbs
- lwater lightly
The water pressure from our garden hose is aggressive for the annuals and herbs. I keep a watering can or an empty Sugar Free Minute Maid plastic bottle tucked behind the planter. It is a subtle reminder to water the herbs.I need a similar reminder when I bake.
I am known more for my repurposed projects more than my gardening skills.

Tool boxes are a staple at antique, vintage shops and Goodwill stores. If you prefer to hunt for a metal toolbox in your pajamas you can find a few toolboxes on Ebay.
