QUICK WAY TO MAKE A SUMMER DIY PILLOW

Am I the only one who dreaded July 5th as a child? It was the firecracker on the calendar that announced half of the summer vacation was over. It would be picture day in a few weeks and a new Trapper Keeper notebook and loose-leaf paper.

But as an adult, I love to celebrate the holidays, and summer is filled with mini vacations and long weekends and celebrating our country and service families with red, white, and blue.

It is the only time of year I wear red!

And now my pillows wear red, white, and blue with this summer DIY pillow.

Last year I tried to dress my front door in Americana tulle (yes tulle) and flags. My front porch looked like a Vegas act with tulle blowing in the wind, held to the front door with a well-placed nail.

So this year I stuck with something more appropriate for my modest porch.

So I went back to the basics with my little porch bench and a DIY summer pillow for the porch.

DIY SUMMER PILLOW

While shopping the Pottery Barn clearance section from the comfort of my kitchen, I found this 12×18 pillow cover. With the texture of sailing cloth, it was durable and neutral. With a tiny bench on a petite porch, the pillow was a soft touch against the wrought iron railing upgrade we completed.

EASY DIY PILLOW HACK FOR THE SUMMER

For Christmas, I added a red ribbon and tied it around the pillow like a gift and that starte my easy-peasy porch pillow.

With Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day a red, white, and blue ribbon was a great add-on to my durable and unassuming pillow.

SUPPLIES

The supply list is simple. If you are a reader at Everyday Edits you know I like simple one-hour projects like this one on how to make planters look larger.

  • neutral pillow case for multiple holidays
  • ribbon, wired ribbon, fabric, garland
  • use anything that you can wrap the pillow like a present.
  • I used this hack to secure the ribbon on the backside.

You guys I love this! The best part is this works for an entryway bench or any interior space that needs a little holiday. Please save this image to your Pinterest boards.
