HOW TO MAKE A DIY PILLOW IN A MINUTE

Growing up, I dreaded July 5th. It was the firecracker on the calendar that announced half of summer vacation was over. It signaled picture day and a new Trapper Keeper.

As an adult, I think of each season as an opportunity to celebrate. This DIY pillow is a quick and easy way to celebrate the summer season.

And now my porch and patio pillows wear red, white, and blue with this summer’s no-sew pillow.

A few years ago, I decorated my front door in Americana tulle (yes, tulle) and flags.

My front porch looked like a Vegas act with tulle blowing in the wind, held to the front door with a well-placed nail.

Now, I opted for something more suitable for my modest-sized front porch.

So I went back to the basics with my little HomeGoods wood bench and a DIY summer pillow for the porch.

STEPS

While shopping the Pottery Barn clearance section from the comfort of my kitchen, I found this 12×18 lumpillow cover.

With the texture of sailing cloth, it was durable and neutral.

I found these outdoor lumbar pillows on Amazon. With a tiny bench on a petite porch, the pillow was a soft touch against the wrought iron railing upgrade we completed.

NO SEW WITH RIBBON

For Christmas, I added a red ribbon and tied it around the pillow like a gift, and that started my easy-peasy porch pillow.

With Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day a red, white, and blue ribbon was a great add-on to my durable and unassuming pillow.

SUMMER THEME DIY PILLOW

SUPPLIES

• neutral pillow case for multiple holidays ( I found these outdoor-friendly pillows)
• wired or “flat” ribbon,
• use anything that you can wrap the pillow like a present.
• I used this hack to secure the ribbon on the backside.
