THE WEEKEND EDIT FORK + SPOON
Happy Weekending! I am so happy you are here today at Everyday Edits. We were in NYC last weekend visiting our youngest. We brought home his and hers head colds. One of us gave it to his better, younger half.
. One of the many things I love about this kid (young man) is he is frugal. He splurges on some brands, but when I asked what errands he had to run, he listed TJ Maxx and Marshalls (they are one escalator ride from each other in Chelsea).
We spent twenty-five minutes looking for a fall-scented candle. With 100 candles on the metal shelves in TJMaxx. He could not find a candle that did not smell like dead leaves or apple cider.
So we headed to Marshalls (down the escalator).
I don’t think his sister or brother has ever been in a Marshalls.
As always, we had a packed schedule to match the crowds, and we logged over 15 miles on Saturday.
Thanks to the tips from my favorite preppy empty nester, we were able to secure reservations at the Polo Bar. I had visions of a celebrity sighting (it is known for celebrities and politicians).
Apparently, we were sitting close to a musician.
My son recognized his hair but could not recall his name. He noted that when the bill was delivered to their table he he handed it to his mom.
Which I thought was a mama bear moment.
Some of you know what I mean… others have already stopped reading.
On our way to the US Open, we went to Rolos in Queens. It had had great reviews, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered a few entrees and shared plates. We all loved the food.
Rolos is located on a tree-lined street, which made it seem like we were going to run into Kevin James or Ray and Debra Barone.
Speaking of the Everybody Loves Raymond …
I took an hour to myself to visit the Paley Center for Media NYC, where fans of the hit show Everybody Loves Raymond toured A Behind the Scenes Tribute.
My husband and son walked into the Paley Center and confirmed it was open.
My son acted surprised when he saw other people in the lobby. The two of them could not get out of there fast enough. They were headed to look at watches (my husband’s newest obsession).
I was so happy to see others at this venue, including a girl who was closer to my daughter’s age. She asked if I would take her photo on the Barone living room couch, and she happily took mine.
We bonded over our mutual love of the classic show. I think I recognized her green striped rugby shirt from JCF.
I didn’t tell her I had the same collared rugby shirt in high school.

We stayed at the Moxy in East Village to coordinate our days near our son’s four-bedroom apartment.
We went to Oxomoxo in Brooklyn for dinner. This was my second trip to this restaurant.
Our son went to high school with the Sous Chef, and they reconnected in Manhattan.
It is always a treat to visit the city (and our son).
Three nights is the perfect amount of time before our son is tired of explaining to me what direction we are walking. I need my mountains!
QUESTION: Do you have a favorite television show?

Oh I loved Everybody Loves Raymond.
Looking forward to seeing how you like The Dutch House.. I too listened to it and Tom Hanks did a fabulous job.
Good to hear you had a good time in the city.. we are headed their tomorrow for a broadway show.
I was wondering where you were with the infamous wooden utensils on the wall! Aren’t they making a comeback?
Love the Talbots sweater! I thought you were getting the “cape”….i think you should. It would look great on you. You can pull it off!
The comment about the JCF rugby shirt cracked me up because I keep seeing rugby shirts for the fall. I love them, but if you wore it when it was first popular, you shouldn’t wear it when it becomes popular again! Do you have one?
Glad you had a wonderful time in NYC! Did you have one of the expensive $20 honeydew melon drinks at the US Open? Our local news spoke about them……lol
I saw your Instagram video about catching a cold on the plane ride … feel your pain! I am still dealing with my eye issue, but it is slowly, very slowly, getting better. I hope you both feel better soon!
I have to admit, we hardly watched “Everyone Loves Raymond. ” Not sure why? We do love his writer’s fun show about himself called “Somebody Feed Phil”
Our book club selection was Doris Kearns Goodwin’s memoir ‘An Unfinished Love Story,” which is about her husband Dick Godwin, who was a political speechwriter in the 60s era Kennefordy and LBJ. I listened to Libby Audio, a very lengthy audio, read by the author, but it was interesting to hear the voices of the past Presidents.
Thanks for the shout out!
I’m not going to say the number of books I have on hold.. lets just say there are pages.
Thank you for the shout out! I haven’t watched the Billy Joel doc yet. I will add it to my list. I can’t pick a favorite song right now. I will have to think about it. I love the Libby app and that’s all I really use for my books.
You are welcome! You have great travel tips! Just emailed you! laura
I absolutely use and love the Libby app. I got my husband using it as well.
I totally sing in the car as well..
My favorite Billy Joel songs are a tie– Piano Man and Scenes From An Italian Restaurant.
Yes, love the Libby Library app! JeffCo is building a new library in our community–they took over an old beer distributor building and are renovating it, so I’m really looking forward to having a library close by for actual visits. Autumn is my favorite season, so I’m looking forward to “pumpkin everything”!
I am loving the Billy Joel documentary! Talking to Dad about it.
There are too many songs I love to pick one! There are so many memories attached to them!
We must have received the Talbots catalong on the same day. Crazy enough-I dog eared the cape and the sweater under it!!! Light blue and green are all over the place, and I’m here for it. Even JCF has a blue and green striped sweater. Too funny!
Oh I know which sweater you are talking about! I think I was looking at the green one. The green loafers are on backorder. Red and Navy are in too but I cannot wear read!Happy Almost Birthday sissy! laura
Ahoy hoy!
That picture of Erich is adorable!
I want my hips to be as flexible as Elliot’s. Maybe his questionable breeding had a hand in that.
I didn’t know you like mysteries. I’ve read 1-2 Agatha Christie mysteries and they were fun.
The other book looks funny-why’d you not like it?
Watch out for the garden snakes/large earthworms (think of snakes as giant worms).
No no no non no.
Hi Laura
Our book club has a member who is obsessed with all of Richard Osman’s books and recommends every new one he writes. We read all the Thursday Murder Club series so far and are looking forward to the special based on the first book.
Lawn work is primarily my husband’s job. We are surrounded by many big trees, so fall clean up is a big job! I help where I can. It’s good exercise!
I am looking forward to fall– it has always been my favorite time of the year!
An elk?? You must live in a magical place. The best we can hope to see around here is an eagle or deer and none of them are in my yard!! That honor is reserved for chipmunks and squirrels. ps- I’m not a fan of snakes either!!
Laura,
Thanks so much for stopping by!! Glad to hear that you like the Boscov’s web site enough to order from it…I just ordered a whole bunch of clothes for my twin granddaughters on clearance in larger sizes to put away for Christmas and their birthdays which are also in December…..I saved a ton of money on them too!! I hope you are enjoying your week!!
Hugs,
Deb

Ahoy, hoy! I saw the new pillow in the photo as I began reading, and I immediately wanted one! I was hoping it was from Amazon! I love it!
I miss Oprah! (Even though I can’t believe she fell for Harry and Megan’s sob story.)
dO YOU Have a HomeGoods by school? love i t! xo me
That stinks about the ticket (and cone incident). Those solar lights look cool. Leave it to kids to be our toughest critics (besides ourselves!). We had a pretty quiet weekend and that was a good thing! One daughter visiting and she’s still here!
I am going to come up with a name for my AI guy. Why do we assume it’s a man?!
I found myself thanking him…it was frightening!
Saving that book list. Humming The Hustle and adding it to me Sunday Funday playlist!
I know, right! xo laura
What a great idea! I want to go through John’s belts now. I am guessing you could go to Old Navy for cheap but cute dog collars for smaller items.
Christmas in July was celebrated by letting Fritz open a Bark Box! He scored a big hot dog stuffy and an even bigger octopus stuffy! His new nick name is Hot Dog so it was hilarious!
Great post-super funny, sissy!
yes, leather belts give it a Ralph Lauren, preppy vibe ! Thanks sissy!
I didn’t buy anything but hubby ordered some outdoor cameras. That triple berry dessert sounds delish! I found the cutest pair of pj short at Walmart! They’ve been killing it lately!
Hi Laura,
I pretty much bought the things I wanted/needed during Prime days. But where Amazon is concerned it seems my list is ongoing. Haha.
We have been lucky here in Southern California as far as HOT weather is concerned but I’m sure we’ll get our share during August and September. 😎
Have a great weekend.
Karen
Laura,
I actually did not buy anything on Amazon Prime Days as I found things cheaper on some other sites like Boscov’s and Penney ‘s and Walmart….Thanks so much for stopping by…I hope you are staying cool!!
Hugs,

My least favorite month is any with temperatures over 90! I am not much of a hot weather girl…lol No Prime buying for me-I am in the “getting rid of stuff” stage of life. We have a recycling day in our community every year, and we drop off all the discards we can fit in our trunk, which is nice. Goodwill is there to take good stuff and lots of recycling trucks, etc. Otherwise, I put stuff up for FREE on FB Marketplace and put it on the curb and it is gone in 24 hours.
My least favorite month is August. I’m not a summer fan, although I like summer when the weather hits 78 degrees for the “high”.
By the way, I don’t know if it’s my computer or others have found the same…my comments and other visitors from previous posts are in the line of comments.
Praying for October,
Karen B.😎
August-September are the worst!!! Even with A/C blasting, it’s nearly unbearable to walk outside! The dogs hold us hostage waiting for their walk which just can’t happen until dark….that’s a long time.
By September, you want it to at least be less humid so it feels like you’re making progress towards fall. Ugh.
Do you like the books or meh? Can’t tell.
I do like those two books the the perfect marriage just starting perfect divorce. I have to finish before bookclub
Your book club picks some interesting books! We are reading “James” for July and “The Wedding People” for August. I’ve been reading on Kindle lately, but I really prefer books. A new JeffCo library is opening in our area next year, and I can’t wait! I already told my husband that I will be hanging out there all the time. 🙂
We are almost finished watching the complete series og The Chosen. I’m finding it poignant and thought-provoking.
Busy weekend—we volunteer at our community’s historical society, and our group had an “open house” at the pioneer home ruins this weekend, where we informed visitors about its interesting history. Today, we also hiked a long trail in Deer Creek Canyon Park–I wanted to see the burn scar and restoration work that was done. I’m really tired now….lol….out of shape!
PS My best friends live all over the US so we keep in touch using WhatsApp
Great idea on the WhatsApp.
The look on Chole’s sweet puppy face is priceless.
Enjoy your weekend.
Karen B.
Hey, Laura, thanks for sharing my whtie bean dip recipe. It is so yummy! I havne’t read your book club selections, but they both look good. Put them on my “to read” list. I’m not into dystopian either. I’m watching The Discovery of Witches on Netflix.
Thanks Carol! Oh I need to check out the Netflix show! Happy 4th of July!
laura
It is too hot outside to do anything…boo hoo!
I have been going through file cabinets, purging a lot of old papers. I realized I saved so much from old magazines as “important info” and then never looked at it again.
Our book club book this month was “We Solve Murders” by Richard Osman. It was OK — I’m getting tired of his format, as this is the 4th book by him that we read. Next month is “James.”
Stay cool!
I detest road cones..and yes..you are so correct that I never see lip lines on a man..it’s just not fair!😫
I just did a post about the books I’ve read recently. I hope you’re having a good week!
I just did a book post last week.. maybe you can find some inspiration there.
It’ll be nice to have one of the kids home. What NYC heat.. we have had three solid rainy days in the 60’s but yes tomorrow will all of a sudden be 98 degrees.. so make sense.
We do have a big trip planned over the summer.
Sharing on the Weekend Edit Thanks Hena
Your bathroom looked pretty pre-renovation–make sure to post a photo of the post-renovation. Our bathroom could use an update, but I don’t want to deal with all the mess, so it will remain a 90s early 2000 bathroom…lol
We have another Richard Osman book scheduled for our June book club, called “We Solve Murders.” It was chosen by the same member who had us read two of his other books.
My granddaughters are getting older, so soon I’ll have to redecorate their “Sleep Over” bedroom in our house–it is hard to believe how quickly children outgrow things. I gave away a lot of my grandchildren’s toys to friends with new grandchildren. It’s very nostalgic to have to do all of that for a second time in life!
Enjoy your June company! June ia a birthday month for 3 of us!
Hi Pat, yes the mess is a hassle. We made the decision to update now, enjoy it and then when we downsize it will have good bones for the next homeowner.
Loved you travel post from this weekend! xo laura
I thought we were going to see the After reno project!
I am on Season 2 of Hacks! I love Jimmy, the talent agent…he’s so cute! The whole cast is hilarious! I agree-there are some scenes that don’t need to be included. Just allude to it-that’s enough.
I’m with you…some books can seem so formulated that I find I know what’s going to happen before it does! I used to be in a book club. I loved it!
Have a great weekend.
That 4th of July floral/flag arrangement is so cute!
I need a good book, but I’m tired of fiction. I may go back and read the classics again.
They may be old, but they aren’t tired.
I’m going to have to go the JCO webiste now. Thank you very much.
CALL ME I promise not to do laundry or take calls from evan ;0)
You need to plan a trip to Alaska! That is so cool, my SIL’s dad & mom just did the trip and it was her dad’s last state to visit as well. I haven’t watched that show but I was thinking of checking it out but there are too many things to watch. I’m only part way through YOU’s last season, so I’m way behind. The birds do wake me sometimes before dawn. Crazy about the bears! We had a big graduation this past weekend (CG #1). Hope you had a great weekend1
I am watching Friends & Neighbors and am enjoying it.
You was so crazy and the finale was just crazy.. not really a fan.
That is so cool about your husband.. does he have a favorite?
No bucket list, but I’m impressed your husband has been to every state except Alaska. You definitely need to visit Alaska. I’ve been getting my flower beds in shape for the upcoming season.
Karen B.
Laura, 1. you have to go to Alaska. It is so beautiful and very special.
2. Thank you for sharing my spray painted lamps. I love them. As soon as I can find the right color, I have another pair of glass lamps to paint.
3. Children’s Medical is a wonderful hospital. My sorority alum group outfitted their pediatric cardio library years ago. If you come to visit your niece, you HAVE to visit me.
I’m afraid to take pictures! Know it’s not good, especially since we cut the top of the living room shelves! Can’t wait to get the fireplace!
take photos! xo
Smother…😆!! That’s hysterical. I hadn’t heard that before, but I’m sure sometimes my girls would agree!!!
Hmmm…maybe Debra From ELR minus MIL and kids?
IDK. You are Claire for sure!
Neither.. my husband and I divide our chores in a way that I don’t have to do anything outside the house.
I would love a grapefruit mocktail.. I can sip it while I watch him work 🙂
I get it and yes that is perfect!
Our book club has been reading all of Richard Osman’s Murder Club books one by one–fun and light reading. This month was Kristen Hannah’s “The Women” — it was a little long and drawn out in my opinion–I liked the first half of the book–could have ended it there!
We haven’t begun outdoor clean-up as yet—we’ve been busy with grandkids’ sports, etc. We have a very large wood retaining wall behind us—there is no chance of passing fire mitigation because of that, plus a few large trees near our house I don’t have the heart to cut them down.
Thank you so much for sharing my birthday story! I so appreciate you! Such a fun round up!
Happy day!
