HOW TO CLEAN WOOD SPOONS
If you are a regular here at Everyday Edits, you might be rolling your eyes with this wood spoon-cleaning tip.
I can hear my sister muttering, “Oh, this will be good.”
Where I struggle in the cooking and baking tasks in the kitchen, I am oddly drawn to cleaning the kitchen! I clean up a lot of spills.
I love kitchen cleaning tips, which is ironic because the only thing I do in the kitchen is brown ground turkey, make guacamole, and reorganize my cabinets at 10:30 at night with Virgin River streaming in the background.
When we were in Italy with our daughter (celebrating her CPA exams), we shopped on cobblestone streets and bought knockoffs, such as handbags and ceramic trivets.
I fell in love with the olive wood cooking spoons and serving boards.
And, of course, I have a collection of homeGoods wood spoons.
Sometimes, a spoon is just a spoon.
But what lurks on the spoons is where we get into the details.
This is an easy cleaning process with instant results. The hot water does all the work loosening food particles from the spoons edges I was shocked to see what was floating in the water that I did not notice. I also had a habit of loading my spoons and these items on the top rack of the dishwasher.
STEPS TO CLEAN SPOONS
- fill a pot with water and bring to a slow boil.
- drop your wood spoons into the pot for a few minutes.
- I turned my stove off and just let the wood spoons marinate for a minute
This is where you see the magic. All of a sudden, hidden food particles rise to the top of the pot. The wood spoons are shedding food and debris.
It doesn’t matter what you clean when you see the results in a matter of minutes.
The best part is the pot of boiling water does all the work.

That’s it! I could not believe how many specks of who knows what rose to the top of the pot.
I let them air dry and felt great accomplishment in minutes. I will be adding this to my cleaning list tips before the holidays!

Thanks for the tip! Ironically, just yesterday I was talking to my husband about cleaning wooden spoons! How strange is that?!! We’ve been trying to use our wooden spoons more and phase out all the plastic/silicone ones. You read my mind!
