Who knew I judged soap? I thought Castille soap was fancy and snooty. I always saw the familiar plastic bottle as arm candy in a laundry room photo on Pinterest.

And then I went to Costco …

A few weeks ago I ditched my husband at Costco to walk 300 steps to the Marshalls (we were waiting for the Costco oven-roasted chickens). He graciously volunteered to check out the televisions- I mean wait for a chicken, while I checked out the cleaning products at Marshall’s).

I spied a dozen varieties of scented bottles of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap.

Sidenote: Scroll to the bottom to read the history of the Dr. Bronner brand.

With multi-purpose products in demand, I grabbed a bottle (and walked 300 steps back to Costco to help my husband load the car).

I am a giver.

Ironically, Costco sells a 2 pack of Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap.

It turns out this mix of organic oils soap is one of the most versatile cleaners for you and your home. This is a multi-purpose and budget-friendly cleaner.

And  Castile soap has been around since the Middle Ages which is a bit surprising since this period of history was not known for its hygiene.

Or, watch Season 1 of(Game of Thrones.

But it turns out the Mediterranian region was producing this olive oil-based cleaner at about the same time.

But now in 2024, they offer a peppermint scent which is like cleaning with a candy cane in a bottle.

And, with 50 ounces of this affordable soap, I needed to clean something.

In full disclosure, the bulk of my research consisted of me turning the bottle 180 degrees to read a convenient list on the label. The key is to dilute it and test it on surfaces. I love this cleaning product and used it to spot-clean a wool rug.

  • body wash
  • facial wash
  • shampoo
  • dog wash
  • all-purpose cleaner
  • fruits + vegetable cleaner
  • laundry
  • all-purpose floor cleaner
  • spray plants to discourage bugs
  • laundry
  • hand soap
  • dish soap
  • dog dishes and toys

And, you can dilute this multi-purpose cleaner to extend its reach in your house. There are other brands, I am just sharing this brand because it kept popping up in my shopping carts.

As I read the label I was curious about the family behind the brand. I decided to study the history of this family-owned company

Reading this article about the family business and  Emmanuel Bronner reads like a movie script.

I  have a few actors in mind.

10-things-you-can-clean-with-castile-soap                          The peppermint smells amazing. I checked out the company online and it turns out they sell other products in the popular peppermint scent.

How do you use this popular  soap around your house? Let me know in the comments and I will add the suggestions and the source (you)  to my list! Or you can email me here.
