WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I PHOTOGRAPHED MY HOUSE

Hello, you know that reaction when you see a photo of yourself and you think, ” That is not what I look like?” I had the same reaction when I photographed rooms in my house.

Recently, I was tweaking the camera settings on my DSLR camera and took a few photos of my kitchen. When I downloaded the images to my computer, I noticed the chalkboard.

The cheeseboard-shaped chalkboard has been on the wall adjacent to the refrigerator for years. My friends get a kick out of it because I usually write down grocery items or reminders to change the furnace filter.

This is a photo from my kitchen looking into our family room. Until now, I never noticed how small the chalkboard looks next to the weight of the cabinets and the refrigerator.

It looks like it belongs in the Barbie Dream House kitchen.

I recognize this is a first-world decor problem. However, if you are

bored, uninspired or not sure why you don’t love your home office or dining room, grab your phone or camera.

TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR ROOMS OR SPACES

You will be amazed at how a photograph inadvertently highlights a space’s good and bad aspects of your house.

This is one of my favorite photos of our dining room.

This is what it looked like ten + years ago.

Before you spend any money, take a breath, grab your phone or camera and take a few photos.

BENEFITS

A photograph is easy. It takes eight seconds.
It is affordable. You may think you need a designer, but maybe you just need to photograph the room that frustrates you.

Family Room

Sometimes a photo can tell us that the room is too busy! This happened when I took some photos of our stone fireplace.

The space felt crowded until I took a few photos and had confirmation from my camera that it was a bit busy!

And maybe I should not use a brown paper bag for a plant basket.

Last year, I wrote this UN dining room-related blog post because I was (am) obsessed with reworking dining rooms.

I spent a Saturday afternoon rearranging the furniture to see if I could repurpose the space.

I had pushed the table against the window to expand on the coffee shop vibe idea.

After taking a few photos, I was reminded that dining grooms need to include the dining table.

Now it is where we “puzzle.”

After uploading these photos, this repurposed wood door project never made it to the blog. It was “twinning” like the twins in the classic horror movie The Shining.

I have taken photos while standing on my dining room table. This photo was taken from the top floor of our home. Take photos from different perspectives! This photo changed the direction of our living room.

Dont forget to photograph your yard. This is our side yard.

I struggle with staging bookcases. Now I take photos to help me beef them up, it is an ongoing project! Maybe I should move the ink cartridge. ;0)
