Home Depot installed a few of our windows (well their subcontractors). I asked the sales guy if the warranty continues if the windows were painted. He answered my question with – over 65% of customers end up painting either the interior or exterior vinyl trim.
I did not paint the exterior side of our window trim, but I might on our next paint job.
Sidenote: I love real wood windows, but with the Colorado climate and our return on investment we opted for vinyl windows.

We have crank handles on a few of our windows and they have stayed blemish-free too.
I think one of the tricks is to not over-spray the windows where they tend to drip. I lightly sprayed over the handles. And I used this spray paint which included a built-in primer (one less step to smudge.

You guys, I love the painted windows. I am ready to paint a few more this spring because the windows pop against the white-painted vinyl. Next up I plan to do this room. See the beige window trim? Yep, me too.
