THE WEEKEND EDIT – STATUS CHANGE

Happy Weekending! We are painting our daughter’s and SIL’s wrought iron fence this weekend. We offered (I offered).
Ash and Daniel could not get out of our way fast enough!
Right about now, I wish we had hired a painter with a paint sprayer.
Instead, we bought 30+ cans of Rustoleum Flat Black spray paint.
Can’t wait to share the before and after!
Status Change
As a Realtor, my work life is a series of deadlines.
But right now we have a new deadline.
I have been holding onto this news for months.
And now, it’s official … our daughter and SIL are going to be parents!
They chose not to find out the baby’s gender until the baby is born! This answers the first question by friends, family, and strangers.

Their decision to wait was greeted with enthusiasm from friends and strangers.
There are few amazing surprises in this world (unless we win this weekend’s lottery).
And then I am hiring a painter to paint their fence.
The second most popular question is, “What is my new title?”
This weekend, we are bringing over the baby stroller so Sir Russell can get used to walking alongside the stroller.
Russell is the size of a pony- he could pull the baby stroller.

This is the only place our sweet angel would sleep.
I asked the pediatrician about it, and he suggested we just move her car seat around so she would acclimate to different views.

We were living in my in-laws’ basement while our home was being built. Her views included a shuffleboard table, a player piano, and a beer fridge. This phase was short; she just loved to be warm and cozy.
That car seat cost us $45 at Target.
Did you see this week’s Tuesday Tip? What would you add to this list?
- Have you heard of the Quince brand on Amazon? Thoughts?
- This moisturizer is like buttercream frosting for your face!
- These gluten-free, vegan dark chocolate crisps make a yummy mid-day treat!
- READING, WATCHING & LOVING
- I started Orphan Train. What are you reading this month?
- Pat, whom I met through her blog, has the best day trips if you live in Colorado. Pat grew up in Brooklyn, so I always ask for NYC travel ideas!
- We just finished Adolescence on Netflix. Brilliant performance by Owen Cooper.
QUESTION: What do your grandkids (or nieces and nephews) call you? My sister is Auntie Tricia and/or bonus mom! I am sure the kids gave her a few extra titles over the years. Love you, sissy!

Congratulations on the expected grandbaby news! So exciting to become agrandparent. Our son and daughter-in-law had their children call us the Italian names for grandparents, Nonna and Nonno. Our daughter and son-in-law did not-they used Grandma and Pop-Pop. It’s all good!
I read the Orphan Train years ago–a fascinating true story.
Thanks for the nice “shout out” — I have been blogging about our Alaska cruise recently, but will be showing some beautiful Cokorado fall scenery in upcoming posts.
Hope the painting job is over! You are both so wonderful to help with that big job!
Quince is great! I have joggers from there. Great quality and good return policy. Plus, I think it’s free shipping both ways!
Started Mad Men again-it’s hard to believe the way women were treated only 50 years ago. But it does make smoking and a cocktail look cool, just like in The Crown.
I’ll try Adolescence. Isn’t it kind of weird?
I think Gam Gam is going to stick as your new title. Now Rod needs one.
Congratulations! It’s the best gift from our kids! I have three grandchildren, and I absolutely think they are the best!
Karen B.
Sorry to hear you both came back sick. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for sharing my link!
I checked out the Preppy Empty Nester and her reviews as well.. always adding more books to the list.
The knobs on the furniture update really make the piece unique.
I hope you are feeling better, Laura! I am still healing from my eye problem, but I am now using experimental eye drops made from my own blood and made in my cornea specialists’ lab, which is helping.
My favorite book of last year was “A Fever In the Heartland” by Timothy Eagan. A non-fiction book based on a true event, which is quite scary and gruesome, but the book’s backstory taught me a lot about America’s immigration history and many misconceptions that Americans have. In light of what has been happening lately, it also showed me that, sadly, “everything old is new again.” If we as a nation survived that, maybe we can survive now.
I’m with you…some books can seem so formulated that I find I know what’s going to happen before it does! I used to be in a book club. I loved it!
Have a great weekend.
That 4th of July floral/flag arrangement is so cute!
I need a good book, but I’m tired of fiction. I may go back and read the classics again.
They may be old, but they aren’t tired.
I’m going to have to go the JCO webiste now. Thank you very much.
CALL ME I promise not to do laundry or take calls from evan ;0)
You need to plan a trip to Alaska! That is so cool, my SIL’s dad & mom just did the trip and it was her dad’s last state to visit as well. I haven’t watched that show but I was thinking of checking it out but there are too many things to watch. I’m only part way through YOU’s last season, so I’m way behind. The birds do wake me sometimes before dawn. Crazy about the bears! We had a big graduation this past weekend (CG #1). Hope you had a great weekend1
I am watching Friends & Neighbors and am enjoying it.
You was so crazy and the finale was just crazy.. not really a fan.
That is so cool about your husband.. does he have a favorite?
No bucket list, but I’m impressed your husband has been to every state except Alaska. You definitely need to visit Alaska. I’ve been getting my flower beds in shape for the upcoming season.
Karen B.
Laura, 1. you have to go to Alaska. It is so beautiful and very special.
2. Thank you for sharing my spray painted lamps. I love them. As soon as I can find the right color, I have another pair of glass lamps to paint.
3. Children’s Medical is a wonderful hospital. My sorority alum group outfitted their pediatric cardio library years ago. If you come to visit your niece, you HAVE to visit me.
I’m afraid to take pictures! Know it’s not good, especially since we cut the top of the living room shelves! Can’t wait to get the fireplace!
take photos! xo
Smother…😆!! That’s hysterical. I hadn’t heard that before, but I’m sure sometimes my girls would agree!!!
Hmmm…maybe Debra From ELR minus MIL and kids?
IDK. You are Claire for sure!
Neither.. my husband and I divide our chores in a way that I don’t have to do anything outside the house.
I would love a grapefruit mocktail.. I can sip it while I watch him work 🙂
I get it and yes that is perfect!
Our book club has been reading all of Richard Osman’s Murder Club books one by one–fun and light reading. This month was Kristen Hannah’s “The Women” — it was a little long and drawn out in my opinion–I liked the first half of the book–could have ended it there!
We haven’t begun outdoor clean-up as yet—we’ve been busy with grandkids’ sports, etc. We have a very large wood retaining wall behind us—there is no chance of passing fire mitigation because of that, plus a few large trees near our house I don’t have the heart to cut them down.
Thank you so much for sharing my birthday story! I so appreciate you! Such a fun round up!
Happy day!
