THE WEEKEND EDIT -MOVING VIOLATION
Happy Weekending.
We have sunny skies here in Colorado.
Here is the view this morning. We added the umbrella to our deck after the squirrels used it as a trampoline last summer!
We are almost done with Pat’s freezer challenge!
I added my pantry to the challenge.
It was a fun ( for me) until I found the Costco …six-pack of Chicken by the Sea canned tuna.
MOVING VIOLATION
Do you remember last year when we had the construction cones in front of our neighborhood? ,
I tapped every other construction cone the first day.
Well, the crew is back to do the opposite side of the street.
This year, I was prepared.
The city had signs reminding us of the pending reverse traffic patterns.
My girlfriends in our neighborhood gave me a heads-up.
Even Courtney at King Soopers gave me a heads up!
She knows me!
This year, the city upgraded to orange-and-white barrels.
A neighbor must have suggested it!
And if that wasn’t enough.. My husband posted this in our family group chat! .
My first reaction was that it was some funny speed trap or traffic violation, and the city was sharing videos of the driving offense.
It was pretty funny, especially because I missed the lane to turn into and had to make a U-turn ( I mean a series of to get back into the lane.
So when my husband texted me the video (not AI), I thought my husband or friends had paid for some “pave the way” donation to the city.

I spent more time logging into the Red Cross CPR portal than reading the workbook.
It is hard to study over the summer!

I love most things at TJ’s! Amelia is so cute…how fun to get to spend lots of quality time with her. I read that Sam Hell book years ago in my book club. I think I liked it. I just finished Beautiful Ugly and liked it but the ending was a little off/odd. I don’t think I’ve ever tapped a traffic cone. Is your son back in CO for the summer yet?

Sam Hill and Yesteryear are both on my TBR list. Actually my TBR list is so long that I need to do nothing but read all summer in order to catch up!
We are preparing for a Father’s Day Barbecue next weekend so rearranging our patio has been our “job” this past week. My husband likes to rearrange our pantry–he is always checking “best by” dates and putting older things in front to use up first….if i had all the tuna cans you found it would have turned into Tuna Noodle Casserole…lol
Enjoyed reading ‘Yesteryear’, our financial advisors gifted it to us then had a Q&A with the author but we were out of the country. Just finished and REALLY enjoyed ‘The Book Club for Troublesome Women: A Novel’ by Marie Bostwick. Let me know if you read it and what you thought!
Your granddaughter is adorable! Good to take a CPR class–and I hope you never need to use it.
We have visited Montrose a few times over the years of living in CO as we’ve taken many roads trips to the western part of the state. It’s a nice town!
The bears have been active so far this spring! This looked like a big one! We’ve had bear scat in our yard many times but haven;t seen the culprit as yet. I have been surprised that I have not been seeing many new fawns by now. Some neighbors have posted photos of them on our neighborhood FB page but not as many as in past years either. There have been some mountain lion sightings, so I am hoping that is not why.
I had to look up the actor! He’s dating Zendaya. Never seen ‘I’m.
Listening to the Pitt and Hacks podcasts, but looking for more. Waiting to get off the 16 week waitlist for Christina Applegate’s book. Halloween read I guess!
Christina is not in a good place. I took my name on waitlist for now. She is such a delight to watch and listen to I hope she can find little wins as she navigates this MS idagnosis. I just want to talk to her! ;0)
Retirement can be wonderful if you are well prepared for it financially and mentally. I retired earlier than my husband (age 62) and –he worked until age 70 to get full SS. When he retired. I told him “Every day is Saturday!” 😀
We volunteer with our coimmunity’s history society which keeps us busy. We go to the gym 3x a week for an hour and try to walk on our neighborhood trails when the weather is good, so that keeps us active. We love watching our grandkids activities–sport, dance, music. We’ve taken amny road trips all around the state which has been wonderful!
We are finding that cleaning up our yards for Spring has been a big job for some reason this year–probably because we don’t have the same stamna as we used to have! It does not help that the deer, and an occasional bea,r is leaving behind big plies to clean up
I watched our oldest granddaughter when she was born–babyproofed our house with baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs, and bought soft rubber triangle pieces to soften hard furniture edges, bought cabinet locks and things to plug open outlets.
We cut cable and stream. My husband got MLB and fortunetely can watch all the NY teams through that, so he’s happy. Sadly, we can’t see local teams which I think is horrible –we remember the days when all sports was free on TV! We loved Virgin River –watched all the seasons so far–although a few characters’ stories disappeared without resolution. Since we donated to PBS we’ve been enjoying some series on that lately.
You must have a sister I don’t know because I have no idea about sports teams! I do know that you have to buy YouTube tv to get to see Kansas basketball games!
People rave about Virgin River; try it and let me know (lol). I get all my new shows from you.
I am rewatching Good Girls-it’s so funny!

Hah! We have had hotel expereinces with loud music (or other sounds) in adjacent rooms. The last time was on a trip to Ireland when there was a big party going on until 4AM in the room next to us! I’m glad the hotel gave you some consideration and a free night.

I hope you’re having a blast! It sounded like you had a lot of fun things planned. I prefer the subway to ubers/taxis in NYC. I still get stuck in the turnstiles and have issues with apple pay but I figure it out. I rode them by myself the last time I was there and did pretty well! I have to check out Names. I need a good book. I can’t think of any funny mishaps this past week.

The Pitt is the most realistic drama I’ve ever seen about an ED in a city hospital. It brings back many memories to me.

When you mentioned Batnado, I thought you meant a new streaming show.! I’ve never heard of Bracken Cave, but I’ve seen the bats come and go under the bridge just south of downtown Austin. Quite a sight. Hope you had fun in NYC.
I listened to the audio book of “The Correspondent” and enjoyed it very much! It is narreted by different people for the different characters and I think that added to the story. The book might appeal more to older people like myself, as as we remember writing and reading letters more than a younger generation, and the fact that the protagonist Sybil had an AOL e-mail address made me smile.
Busy times here lately. Easter was wonderful–we had 13 people in total so I cooked for 3 days ahead of time! Now we’ve been traveling all over to watch our oldest grandson play varsity lacrosse. Pretty soon it will be garden clean up time!

I hope you had a great Easter with Amelia and family. How did the carrot cake turn out. I like the mini Cadbury eggs some years and some years I like the jelly beans. This year I couldn’t be bothered. Yay NYC in two weeks. Having spent the last three weekends there moving our daughter, I’m ready to not be there but it’s fun going for vacation. Which bookstore? What bar? I need to know!! I’m having trouble getting into Theo. I don’t have the audio version so that might be why. I’ve heard so many people recommending the book. I’m sticking with it. We had Easter in Brookly and went to the Botanic Gardens and to brunch. I’ll try and think of a Tuesday Tip!

When I lived in NYC I often visited Fraunces Tavern. I have an old post on my blog about it and the museum upstars which has a copy of Washington’s touching and heartfelt “Farewell to the Troops” speech. When we first dined there it was a fancy restaurant, but then I beleive it has changed into a more casual venue–in any event you should definitely visit it and other spots downtown.

My husband sent me 51 long stem roses–one for each year we have been married for Valentine’s Day–he’s a sweetheart! I =made mussels in white wine sauce served over linguini for our Valentine meal.

This is a week Red Flag warning in our part of CO– makes me nervous!
I added that book to my list. My friend just saw that movie and said it was great. I had a nice Valentine’s weekend with my honey. Interesting article remembering where things are. I’ve watched a little of the Olympics. I like learning their stories too.
I’m not sure. I do lose things occasionally and it drives me crazy! The kids love making fun of us, don’t they? We’re watching Pluribus right now.

I can’t believe the warm weather and crazy wind–my poor son and family were without electric power for three days! Luckily, my daughter and I did not lose power so we saved all his frozen food in our freezers.
I make the Italian- American “Feast of the Seven (plus) Fishes” for my family and my son’s in-laws, for Christmas Eev , so I’m really busy these last days baking and preparing and so I’m not blogging this weekend. It was hard to find some Italian fish this year, my husband’s favorite–baccala—- that I usually order from NYC– between tariffs and shipping it got ridiculous, so I’m trying a few new ones instead.

I don’t know Casa Bonita but now I need to look it up. Sorry about your tree, that happened to us one year. Do you know how it fell? The way I remember if I need to use “I or me” in a sentence is to read it without the other person in the sentence. So in your case it would be “me” because you wouldn’t say “it took I”. Our weather has been all over the place, record lows, then snow, then lots of rain and wind. The sun is out today so I’ll take it. The girls will be home soon and I think I’m pretty much ready for the holidays. Enjoy your family time, cookies, trivia, Broncos game,lunch and all of the holiday fun with that grandbaby!! Christmas is such a busy time of the year! I’ve been trying to decorate, send out Christmas carfds, shop for and wrap gifts, bake a zillion things attend parties and dinner out with friends, etc, etc, Your Breck photo is wonderful! So glad to see baby Amelia begin the parade tradition.

I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner all my 51 years of marriage, except the year my daughter was born 42 years ago when my sister and I switched holidays. I love looking at new recipes but usually make the family favorites. We always have a birthday cake for our daughter as part of Thanksgiving dessert, and she always said it made her feel very special. This year we have 15 people over for the holiday, so I’ll be very busy preparing as much as I can before the holiday–we already bought a 26-pound turkey! We love leftovers, and my kids take home trays of them.

In late summer I feel like I’m counting the days until autumn, including autumn weather! Now that it’s officially arrived, I can relax and focus on Christmas. I want to slow time and have the month of November & December last for 3 mos.

The last thing I ordered online was last week from 32 Degrees. Their prices are ridiculously cheap! Costco often sells some of its stuff. I love their heavy fleece layering mock neck shirts, and I ordered one in Navy Blue to go along with the black and beige ones I already have. I also ordered the fleece ayering leggings in black. As you can tell, I’m always cold in winter.
We loved Somebody Somewhere–all the characters were very endearing.

Congrats on your soon to be grandma status. Are you particular on what you would like to be called? Love the bandana’s. I have been on a slow burn crime kick. I watch Untamed with Eric Bana set in Yosemite. Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman and just finish Task with Mark Ruffalo.
We always get the flu vaccine–the quadrivalent dose one that is for those 60 and over. I sadly know a few people who died from the flu over the years, and I wouldn’t take the chance of not being protected.
We are watching The Diplomat–Kari Russel is so good on it.
My favorite spot in my house would be my kitchen. as I love to cook…. and eat…lol

Becoming a grandparent for the first time is such a wonderful event! Our first was born under a bright supermoon evening 17 years ago, and since then, every time I see the moon, I think of him. Now we spend many weekends watching him play lacrosse, and of course, watching the three grandchildren who followed his birth over the years.
We had a mouse once! I made the mistake of having a birdfeeder on my patio, and the fallen seed led it into my basement air vent. We used a mousetrap and, sad for the mouse, but it was very effective. Since then, we installed a screen behind our air vent to make sure no more critters could enter.
S[eaking of eyes…I finally saw my regular ophthalmologist, who told me he felt the other doctor had overtreated my condition! No more bandage lens, and I am healing well! Finally!

I did not care too much for “The House of Guinness ” as it was a little too fabricated. We got involved in watching a Korean culinary star competition on Netflix that is dubbed in English. It has made me want to find a good Korean restaurant somewhere in the Denver area, as I was not familiar with most of their traditional cuisine. I was also surprised by how many fine dining chefs in Korea prepare Italian cuisine as their specialty.
I have to get the Halloween bin out of the garage soon and begin decorating. Maybe the cooler weather will inspire me.
A Bernese Mountain Dog parade in Breck sounds like fun! I did not know they had one. “Goldens in Golden” is the one I know about. It attracts Golden retrievers from all around the country!

Oh shoot I forgot to add ghosts. Hey a neighbor told me Ace Hardware had really inexpensive ghosts. Hers look really cute, but call before you drive!

Enjoy decorating your daughter’s room as a guest room. Make sure to include a “pack and play” crib in case you do some overnight babysitting along the way!
We have a “too big for us” house, and two extra bedrooms are decorated for grandchildren–one for the boys and one for the girls. They used to sleep over a lot, but as they get older, they don’t as they are too busy with friends and extracurricular activities. Grandchildren grow up too quickly!
Congratulations on the expected grandbaby news! So exciting to become agrandparent. Our son and daughter-in-law had their children call us the Italian names for grandparents, Nonna and Nonno. Our daughter and son-in-law did not-they used Grandma and Pop-Pop. It’s all good!

I hope you are feeling better, Laura! I am still healing from my eye problem, but I am now using experimental eye drops made from my own blood and made in my cornea specialists’ lab, which is helping.
My favorite book of last year was “A Fever In the Heartland” by Timothy Eagan. A non-fiction book based on a true event, which is quite scary and gruesome, but the book’s backstory taught me a lot about America’s immigration history and many misconceptions that Americans have. In light of what has been happening lately, it also showed me that, sadly, “everything old is new again.” If we as a nation survived that, maybe we can survive now.
I’m with you…some books can seem so formulated that I find I know what’s going to happen before it does! I used to be in a book club. I loved it!

You need to plan a trip to Alaska! That is so cool, my SIL’s dad & mom just did the trip and it was her dad’s last state to visit as well. I haven’t watched that show but I was thinking of checking it out but there are too many things to watch. I’m only part way through YOU’s last season, so I’m way behind. The birds do wake me sometimes before dawn. Crazy about the bears! We had a big graduation this past weekend (CG #1). Hope you had a great weekend1

No bucket list, but I’m impressed your husband has been to every state except Alaska. You definitely need to visit Alaska. I’ve been getting my flower beds in shape for the upcoming season.

2. Thank you for sharing my spray painted lamps. I love them. As soon as I can find the right color, I have another pair of glass lamps to paint.
3. Children’s Medical is a wonderful hospital. My sorority alum group outfitted their pediatric cardio library years ago. If you come to visit your niece, you HAVE to visit me.
I’m afraid to take pictures! Know it’s not good, especially since we cut the top of the living room shelves! Can’t wait to get the fireplace!

Our book club has been reading all of Richard Osman’s Murder Club books one by one–fun and light reading. This month was Kristen Hannah’s “The Women” — it was a little long and drawn out in my opinion–I liked the first half of the book–could have ended it there!
We haven’t begun outdoor clean-up as yet—we’ve been busy with grandkids’ sports, etc. We have a very large wood retaining wall behind us—there is no chance of passing fire mitigation because of that, plus a few large trees near our house I don’t have the heart to cut them down.
