THE WEEKEND EDIT – MOUNTAIN TIME

Happy Weekending! Did you have a nice Easter? Thank you for sharing your plans with me.

I am always looking for tips and tricks when hosting holidays.

I made this crockpot recipe .

Everyone brought a brunch-friendly side dish to share.

I ordered these glasses for Mimosa’s and used these cloth napkins from my daughter’s baby shower last year!

Miss Amelia scored big with her Easter basket.

The Easter bunny brought her this children’s book. It was a hit with my daughter! And if you have a daughter, niece, or granddaughter, you know that is a win!

We had a crazy week with lots of moving pieces, but my favorite moment was when my husband drove to our daughter’s house at 4:45 am to pick her and Miss Amelia up for Amelia’s first flight (to visit her Grammy and cousin).

This was her face on the way to the airport.

Amelia should be a pro because her mum flew back and forth to the East Coast for work commitments last summer.

I received the sweetest email from a reader who found this blog post.

Another reder said she subscribed to Everyday Edits when she readthis story.

These comments and traffic to Everyday Edits feeds my creative soul.

I received the sweetest text from my daughter’s bestie, who will be in NYC the same weekend we are visiting our youngest son.

We started the show, Madison, on Paramount/Prime with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. .

Michelle Pfeiffer shared this sweet status update l that had me teary-eyed.

READING, WATCHING & LOVING

  1. I finished Theo of Golden. Audible versionI loved it until the ending took a long time to arrive!
  2. I got a haircut this week to celebrate spring.
  3. My hairstylist showed me how to get those beach waves.
  4. The tip is to use a smaller curling iron/wand and start the “twist” close to your roots.
  5. We mixed up my color when my photos with Amelia made my hair look like I had dunked my head in a bowl of brown hair dye that resembled melted milk chocolate .
  6. I have my annual skin check coming up, which throws modesty out of the window.
  7. IWho as red the Correspondent? That is next on my LIbby app! . What are you reading?
  8. Please continue to email me your tips for a future Tuesday Tip. It takes a village (not a bot).

  1. I listened to the audio book of “The Correspondent” and enjoyed it very much! It is narreted by different people for the different characters and I think that added to the story. The book might appeal more to older people like myself, as as we remember writing and reading letters more than a younger generation, and the fact that the protagonist Sybil had an AOL e-mail address made me smile.
Busy times here lately. Easter was wonderful–we had 13 people in total so I cooked for 3 days ahead of time! Now we’ve been traveling all over to watch our oldest grandson play varsity lacrosse. Pretty soon it will be garden clean up time!

  2. I hope you had a great Easter with Amelia and family. How did the carrot cake turn out. I like the mini Cadbury eggs some years and some years I like the jelly beans. This year I couldn’t be bothered. Yay NYC in two weeks. Having spent the last three weekends there moving our daughter, I’m ready to not be there but it’s fun going for vacation. Which bookstore? What bar? I need to know!! I’m having trouble getting into Theo. I don’t have the audio version so that might be why. I’ve heard so many people recommending the book. I’m sticking with it. We had Easter in Brookly and went to the Botanic Gardens and to brunch. I’ll try and think of a Tuesday Tip!

  3. Hi Laura – I love the idea of having a “spring break” with just your husband. I feel like I’m at Disney without the distractions with Harrison here 24/7 for two weeks! Hope you have the best Easter with family and a great trip to NYC.

  4. Have a very Happy Easter, Laura and family!
When I lived in NYC I often visited Fraunces Tavern. I have an old post on my blog about it and the museum upstars which has a copy of Washington’s touching and heartfelt “Farewell to the Troops” speech. When we first dined there it was a fancy restaurant, but then I beleive it has changed into a more casual venue–in any event you should definitely visit it and other spots downtown.

  5. I’m getting closer to reading Theo of Golden, I think I’m 51st in line right now but started in the 300’s! That tavern museum in NYC sounds cool! I’ve never heard of it. You must be getting excited to go to visit your baby. Your other baby Amelia is so cute! Happy Easter!

  6. My husband sent me 51 long stem roses–one for each year we have been married for Valentine’s Day–he’s a sweetheart! I =made mussels in white wine sauce served over linguini for our Valentine meal.
I’m listening to Ina Garten’s bio on the Libby app– what a life she’s had! it is next month’s book club pick.
This is a week Red Flag warning in our part of CO– makes me nervous!

  7. I added that book to my list. My friend just saw that movie and said it was great. I had a nice Valentine’s weekend with my honey. Interesting article remembering where things are. I’ve watched a little of the Olympics. I like learning their stories too.

  8. I’m not sure. I do lose things occasionally and it drives me crazy! The kids love making fun of us, don’t they? We’re watching Pluribus right now.

I need add some of those books to my list! I hope to some reading on our trip to Oahu.

  9. Baby Amelia is absolutely beautiful! How many times have I told you that I love her name?? Never enough. Glad you are enjoying Family Album. Whenever we get a notice that new pics are on, the Mister and I race to our phones to check out the new baby eye candy. I am anxious to hear what you think about your Book Club pick. It looks like a good one. Have a great week!

  10. Thanks for sharing my thrifting post! You must just be in heaven with your grand baby. Just darling!!!

  11. I always enjoy your weekend edits. I’m sorry I don’t write comments more often. You know just how to make me smile. We are bereft of snow also. I love using that word, LOL. The temperature yesterday was 64! There are a lot of very disappointed skiers here. Sending love and hugs across the miles and wishing you a very Merry Christmas and happy healthy new year xox

    1. Merry Christmas~ yes I heard Utah is just as dry. My husband keeps refreshing the forecast on his weather ap!
      Happy New Year!

  12. I enjoyed scrolling through your Instagram! So sad about your tree–I left a comment about what we did when that happened to us when we had a cat.
Loved the photo of your with your granddaughter! She us so sweet and already smiling! Enjoy every moment!
I can’t believe the warm weather and crazy wind–my poor son and family were without electric power for three days! Luckily, my daughter and I did not lose power so we saved all his frozen food in our freezers.
I make the Italian- American “Feast of the Seven (plus) Fishes” for my family and my son’s in-laws, for Christmas Eev , so I’m really busy these last days baking and preparing and so I’m not blogging this weekend. It was hard to find some Italian fish this year, my husband’s favorite–baccala—- that I usually order from NYC– between tariffs and shipping it got ridiculous, so I’m trying a few new ones instead.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2026!!

  13. She’s so adorable and being a grandma sure agrees with you!! I have read two of the Guncle books and loved them. I’ve seen some Kathleen M. and she’s so funny. I don’t know Casa Bonita but now I need to look it up. Sorry about your tree, that happened to us one year. Do you know how it fell? The way I remember if I need to use “I or me” in a sentence is to read it without the other person in the sentence. So in your case it would be “me” because you wouldn’t say “it took I”. Our weather has been all over the place, record lows, then snow, then lots of rain and wind. The sun is out today so I’ll take it. The girls will be home soon and I think I’m pretty much ready for the holidays. Enjoy your family time, cookies, trivia, Broncos game, lunch and all of the holiday fun with that grandbaby!! Happy Birthday Elliot!

    1. HI Heather, OMG Google Casa Bonita. there is a documentary on the remodel for this icon! It’s a place you go to once! The reservations are book several months in advance! It’s the creators of south Park. I got my youngest a tshirt and he wore it in NYC and got a shout out on the street! ha!
Thanks friend! Happy New Year! laura

  14. Great photos. Those baby pajama’s are so cute. Actually baby everything is usually so cute.
We are currently watching The Diplomat.
I have fallen behind on most of everything being sick.. soon.. I will catch up on everything else soon.

  15. Christmas is such a busy time of the year! I’ve been trying to decorate, send out Christmas carfds, shop for and wrap gifts, bake a zillion things attend parties and dinner out with friends, etc, etc, Your Breck photo is wonderful! So glad to see baby Amelia begin the parade tradition.
    Enjoy your time in Houston!

  16. I can’t wait to see the pics from the parade! You’re definitely going to want a puppy! A golden mama just had 12 puppies….
I forgot about mom’s gift! It’s such a brillant idea!!! We should create fake ones for the boys and see if Ashley says something. We could say they’re from me.
I want to try pilates, but it’s expensive! Glad you and Rod are trying it out!

  17. I’m sorry to hear that illness changed your Thanksgiving plans, but I’m happy that you still enjoyed the day, and I hope everyone recovers quickly!
I loved seeing your living room makeover post—very pretty and I love the blue color you chose as accent color!
We finished The Beast In Me, and now I’m watching Palm Royale and also Ken Burns’ “American Revolution” on PBS.
Christmas decorating is now in progress…happily, we decorated outside before it got so cold!

  18. The Task was good not great. Tom Pelphrey is a great actor. He is actually from a neighboring town and he visited the high school the other day.
MSG is amazing.. glad your son got to experience it.. we got multiple times a year and it is such a blast.

  19. I am so happy for your status change. There is nothing better in the whole world! I’ve got another one for you… MALICE!!! Wowza! We watched it in two sittings. Don’t tell anyone. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!xx

  20. CONGRATULATIONS, Grandma, on the birth of Amelia Grace! She is beautiful and has a lovely name. What a very happy Thanksgiving it will be at your house this year! Give our best wishes to your daughter and son-in-law!
I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner all my 51 years of marriage, except the year my daughter was born 42 years ago when my sister and I switched holidays. I love looking at new recipes but usually make the family favorites. We always have a birthday cake for our daughter as part of Thanksgiving dessert, and she always said it made her feel very special. This year we have 15 people over for the holiday, so I’ll be very busy preparing as much as I can before the holiday–we already bought a 26-pound turkey! We love leftovers, and my kids take home trays of them.
Enjoy all the joyful new baby snuggles!

  21. Hi Laura
I’m also not a big fan of the early dark evenings!

As far as snow, I wish the mountains would get lots and the front range little 🙂

I heard good things about the book you are reading for your book club. I’ll be curious to see what you think about it.

Thanks for the tips about spray snow! I have a can that has gone unused for a few years.

  22. The new addition will be here that soon?! That is amazing! I have similar puck lights from Costco and we love them in the kitchen and laundry room. I will check out that book. That dress looks so nice! Also the the sweater. I hate losing things! I will check out some of those high protein dinners.

  23. I hate daylight savings.. ugh.
Aww Russell looks adorable.. a big gentle giant.

  24. Andrea Nine says:

That TNuck dress is so cute and so cute! Oh girl, I seem to be forgetting everything all the time, lol! So our vacation home is four hours away. We’re trying to go up right now every other weekend. I’m so excited for you too!

  25. I guess the baby wants to be born in November! My daughter-in-law was late with all three of their children, so I know how excruciating the wait is!
I love Pottery Barn’s decorations, but I’m at the stage of life where I make sure not to add any more to my collections. I know I’ll have to get rid of most of it in the somewhat near future when we downsize. I heard good things about you Dec. book club read from a friend. I’ll be curious to see what you feel about it when you are finished. The cookbook you ordered looks nice! I own a ridiculous amount of cookbooks, but I seem to find ideas on new things to make for dinner from blogs and Pinterest these days.
Hope to hear pink or blue soon! So exciting!

  26. In late summer I feel like I’m counting the days until autumn, including autumn weather! Now that it’s officially arrived, I can relax and focus on Christmas. I want to slow time and have the month of November & December last for 3 mos.
Have a wonderful fall and have fun with your son and your grandson when he arrives.
    Karen B.

  27. Elliot is a very lucky dog!

The last thing I ordered online was last week from 32 Degrees. Their prices are ridiculously cheap! Costco often sells some of its stuff. I love their heavy fleece layering mock neck shirts, and I ordered one in Navy Blue to go along with the black and beige ones I already have. I also ordered the fleece ayering leggings in black. As you can tell, I’m always cold in winter.

We loved Somebody Somewhere–all the characters were very endearing.

    1. hI pAT, Yes my girlfriend was talking about that brand’s vests and so we ran over to Costco but they were sold out of the size and color my husband wanted! xo laura

    2. Yes my girlfriend got puffy vests – supper cheap at Costco! THanks Pat!

  28. Congrats on your soon to be grandma status. Are you particular on what you would like to be called? Love the bandana’s. I have been on a slow burn crime kick. I watch Untamed with Eric Bana set in Yosemite. Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman and just finish Task with Mark Ruffalo.

  29. We always get the flu vaccine–the quadrivalent dose one that is for those 60 and over. I sadly know a few people who died from the flu over the years, and I wouldn’t take the chance of not being protected.
We are watching The Diplomat–Kari Russel is so good on it.
My favorite spot in my house would be my kitchen. as I love to cook…. and eat…lol
I follow you on Pinterest and will look at your recipe board and those 50 easy dinners. link–thanks!

  30. Andrea Nine says:

Gam Gam CONGRATULATIONS! Eek sooo excited for you. My gracious this post was full of goodness. Made me smile. Big!

  31. Becoming a grandparent for the first time is such a wonderful event! Our first was born under a bright supermoon evening 17 years ago, and since then, every time I see the moon, I think of him. Now we spend many weekends watching him play lacrosse, and of course, watching the three grandchildren who followed his birth over the years.
We had a mouse once! I made the mistake of having a birdfeeder on my patio, and the fallen seed led it into my basement air vent. We used a mousetrap and, sad for the mouse, but it was very effective. Since then, we installed a screen behind our air vent to make sure no more critters could enter.
S[eaking of eyes…I finally saw my regular ophthalmologist, who told me he felt the other doctor had overtreated my condition! No more bandage lens, and I am healing well! Finally!

  32. Heather Hankins says:

    Hey Laura,
We have been watching “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu. It is quirky and sarcastically funny. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are the leads. Have you watched it? I wasn’t sure I was going to like it at first, but we are now on Season 3. Lol
Check it out! See you soon for coffee!

    1. Just emailed you! Love Murders in the Building. Also we just watched John Candy documentary.

  33. How did I miss all of these wedding photos? That one needs to be framed!

Fin and I are watching The Gentlemen on Netflix. Don’t know if you’d like it, but Rod might!

    1. Is it Gentleman in Moscow? Call me tomorrow morning!
      xo sissy

  34. Oh my gosh, I wish I lived closer to Breckenridge. I’d love to see the Bernese Mountain Dog parade. I’m sure Elliot is thanking your husband for dissuading you from buying a Lederhosen.
    Have a great Sunday!
    Karen B. & Bentley

    1. Hi Karen
I will share photos! It’s the beginning of December. Have a great week. We are on baby watch countdown.
Ash is due October 28th. It has not hit me of my pending new status. xo laura

  35. I gave up on Black Rabbit too. Too much violence. The Mister finished it though – he has a stronger stomach than I. Loving Thursday Murder Club. Our fave is The Hardacres. Hope you’re having a great weekend.

    1. Hi Katie m – Rod finished. It just felt like a version of Ozarks. Even the blond (who oerdosed) we thought it was the girl from Ozarks when we first saw her. I would not have recognized Jude Law if I didn’t see his name in credits.

have a fun week. xo laura

  36. Thank you for the “shout-out” for my Alaska cruise posts!
I did not care too much for “The House of Guinness ” as it was a little too fabricated. We got involved in watching a Korean culinary star competition on Netflix that is dubbed in English. It has made me want to find a good Korean restaurant somewhere in the Denver area, as I was not familiar with most of their traditional cuisine. I was also surprised by how many fine dining chefs in Korea prepare Italian cuisine as their specialty.
I have to get the Halloween bin out of the garage soon and begin decorating. Maybe the cooler weather will inspire me.
A Bernese Mountain Dog parade in Breck sounds like fun! I did not know they had one. “Goldens in Golden” is the one I know about. It attracts Golden retrievers from all around the country!

    1. Hi Pat. Have you watched Feeding Phil. We caught a few and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. How is that for an endorsement.
Oh shoot I forgot to add ghosts. Hey a neighbor told me Ace Hardware had really inexpensive ghosts. Hers look really cute, but call before you drive!

      xo laura

  37. Enjoy decorating your daughter’s room as a guest room. Make sure to include a “pack and play” crib in case you do some overnight babysitting along the way!
We have a “too big for us” house, and two extra bedrooms are decorated for grandchildren–one for the boys and one for the girls. They used to sleep over a lot, but as they get older, they don’t as they are too busy with friends and extracurricular activities. Grandchildren grow up too quickly!

  38. Congratulations on the expected grandbaby news! So exciting to become agrandparent. Our son and daughter-in-law had their children call us the Italian names for grandparents, Nonna and Nonno. Our daughter and son-in-law did not-they used Grandma and Pop-Pop. It’s all good!
I read the Orphan Train years ago–a fascinating true story.
Thanks for the nice “shout out” — I have been blogging about our Alaska cruise recently, but will be showing some beautiful Cokorado fall scenery in upcoming posts.
Hope the painting job is over! You are both so wonderful to help with that big job!

  39. tricia becker says:

Quince is great! I have joggers from there. Great quality and good return policy. Plus, I think it’s free shipping both ways!
Started Mad Men again-it’s hard to believe the way women were treated only 50 years ago. But it does make smoking and a cocktail look cool, just like in The Crown.
I’ll try Adolescence. Isn’t it kind of weird?
I think Gam Gam is going to stick as your new title. Now Rod needs one.

  40. Congratulations! It’s the best gift from our kids! I have three grandchildren, and I absolutely think they are the best!
    Karen B.

  41. Sorry to hear you both came back sick. Hope you feel better soon.
    Thanks for sharing my link!
I checked out the Preppy Empty Nester and her reviews as well.. always adding more books to the list.
The knobs on the furniture update really make the piece unique.

  42. I hope you are feeling better, Laura! I am still healing from my eye problem, but I am now using experimental eye drops made from my own blood and made in my cornea specialists’ lab, which is helping.
My favorite book of last year was “A Fever In the Heartland” by Timothy Eagan. A non-fiction book based on a true event, which is quite scary and gruesome, but the book’s backstory taught me a lot about America’s immigration history and many misconceptions that Americans have. In light of what has been happening lately, it also showed me that, sadly, “everything old is new again.” If we as a nation survived that, maybe we can survive now.

  43. I’m with you…some books can seem so formulated that I find I know what’s going to happen before it does! I used to be in a book club. I loved it!
    Have a great weekend.

  44. That 4th of July floral/flag arrangement is so cute!
I need a good book, but I’m tired of fiction. I may go back and read the classics again.
They may be old, but they aren’t tired.
I’m going to have to go the JCO webiste now. Thank you very much.

    1. CALL ME I promise not to do laundry or take calls from evan ;0)

  45. You need to plan a trip to Alaska! That is so cool, my SIL’s dad & mom just did the trip and it was her dad’s last state to visit as well. I haven’t watched that show but I was thinking of checking it out but there are too many things to watch. I’m only part way through YOU’s last season, so I’m way behind. The birds do wake me sometimes before dawn. Crazy about the bears! We had a big graduation this past weekend (CG #1). Hope you had a great weekend1

  46. I am watching Friends & Neighbors and am enjoying it.
You was so crazy and the finale was just crazy.. not really a fan.
That is so cool about your husband.. does he have a favorite?

  47. No bucket list, but I’m impressed your husband has been to every state except Alaska. You definitely need to visit Alaska. I’ve been getting my flower beds in shape for the upcoming season.
    Karen B.

  48. Laura, 1. you have to go to Alaska. It is so beautiful and very special.
    2. Thank you for sharing my spray painted lamps. I love them. As soon as I can find the right color, I have another pair of glass lamps to paint.
    3. Children’s Medical is a wonderful hospital. My sorority alum group outfitted their pediatric cardio library years ago. If you come to visit your niece, you HAVE to visit me.

  49. I’m afraid to take pictures! Know it’s not good, especially since we cut the top of the living room shelves! Can’t wait to get the fireplace!

  50. Smother…😆!! That’s hysterical. I hadn’t heard that before, but I’m sure sometimes my girls would agree!!!

  51. tricia becker says:

Hmmm…maybe Debra From ELR minus MIL and kids?
IDK. You are Claire for sure!

  52. Neither.. my husband and I divide our chores in a way that I don’t have to do anything outside the house.
I would love a grapefruit mocktail.. I can sip it while I watch him work 🙂

  53. Our book club has been reading all of Richard Osman’s Murder Club books one by one–fun and light reading. This month was Kristen Hannah’s “The Women” — it was a little long and drawn out in my opinion–I liked the first half of the book–could have ended it there!

We haven’t begun outdoor clean-up as yet—we’ve been busy with grandkids’ sports, etc. We have a very large wood retaining wall behind us—there is no chance of passing fire mitigation because of that, plus a few large trees near our house I don’t have the heart to cut them down.

  54. Thank you so much for sharing my birthday story! I so appreciate you! Such a fun round up!
    Happy day!
    KariAnne
