THE WEEKEND EDIT -MANI MONEY

Happy Weekending.

On this day in 1975 the Hustle topped the billboard charts! If you find yourself humming along you are welcome!

Happy Weekending.

I like to believe my husband won the lottery when he met me.

I have friends, family and my youngest who just read that line are are mumbling, “oh this will be good.”

But I am in on the joke because he (my first husband) puts up with a lot.

I am a 4-Square ball rolling down the hill and hitting every curb on the street- most days of the week.

My husband prefers to explain, in a patient tone, the benefits of checking the sump pump.

Or patiently waiting for my response to his text asking how long the check engine light has been “red.”

With three car repairs shops 1.8 miles from my driveway I like my odds.

And I prefer to schedule my car based on the weather forecast. I am a planner whic is why I was not surprised

when my husband asked if our physical therapist had raised his rates. Such a random question, but I was prepared.Oh, maybe? Why? I already knew the why.

Well, there is a credit card charge that is $45 more than his rate.

Ben is our family’s physical therapist and half of the Douglas County residents.

Somedays he is a therapist- because pain causes the kind of distress that you would pay six months in advance to snag his 3:30 slot on a Friday.

His approach to physical therapy is to fix the source of the pain and and not see you again.Or maybe he just says that to me.

I can be a wee bit high-maintenance or like a ball that trips over the curb.

Redirecting Laura:

So instead of stringing this convo along, I said.. oh, I charged my pedicure to the joint card because I had an appointment with Ben.

And that is all my husband needed to know. He was like, “oh, of course.I

Somedays a girl needs a pedicure on her toes.

and with a little planning you get a pedicure before a PT appointment.

QUESTION: What is your non-negotiable regarding budgets?

I know my mom’s answer.

READING, WATCHING & LOVING

Nobody panic, but Christmas is in less than five months.

Football is one calendar screen away. Oh my!

To celebrate my favorite floral design guys, they are having a huge sale. They also have a fun floral decor podcast! The hardest part is remembering the order of the letters of their store. House by JSD.

  1. Saving that book list. Humming The Hustle and adding it to me Sunday Funday playlist!

  2. What a great idea! I want to go through John’s belts now. I am guessing you could go to Old Navy for cheap but cute dog collars for smaller items.
Christmas in July was celebrated by letting Fritz open a Bark Box! He scored a big hot dog stuffy and an even bigger octopus stuffy! His new nick name is Hot Dog so it was hilarious!
    Great post-super funny, sissy!

    1. yes, leather belts give it a Ralph Lauren, preppy vibe ! Thanks sissy!

  3. I didn’t buy anything but hubby ordered some outdoor cameras. That triple berry dessert sounds delish! I found the cutest pair of pj short at Walmart! They’ve been killing it lately!

  4. Hi Laura,
I pretty much bought the things I wanted/needed during Prime days. But where Amazon is concerned it seems my list is ongoing. Haha.
We have been lucky here in Southern California as far as HOT weather is concerned but I’m sure we’ll get our share during August and September. 😎
    Have a great weekend.
    Karen

  5. Laura,
I actually did not buy anything on Amazon Prime Days as I found things cheaper on some other sites like Boscov’s and Penney ‘s and Walmart….Thanks so much for stopping by…I hope you are staying cool!!

  6. My least favorite month is any with temperatures over 90! I am not much of a hot weather girl…lol No Prime buying for me-I am in the “getting rid of stuff” stage of life. We have a recycling day in our community every year, and we drop off all the discards we can fit in our trunk, which is nice. Goodwill is there to take good stuff and lots of recycling trucks, etc. Otherwise, I put stuff up for FREE on FB Marketplace and put it on the curb and it is gone in 24 hours.

  7. My least favorite month is August. I’m not a summer fan, although I like summer when the weather hits 78 degrees for the “high”.
By the way, I don’t know if it’s my computer or others have found the same…my comments and other visitors from previous posts are in the line of comments.
    Praying for October,
    Karen B.😎

  8. August-September are the worst!!! Even with A/C blasting, it’s nearly unbearable to walk outside! The dogs hold us hostage waiting for their walk which just can’t happen until dark….that’s a long time.
By September, you want it to at least be less humid so it feels like you’re making progress towards fall. Ugh.
Do you like the books or meh? Can’t tell.

    1. I do like those two books the the perfect marriage just starting perfect divorce. I have to finish before bookclub

  9. Your book club picks some interesting books! We are reading “James” for July and “The Wedding People” for August. I’ve been reading on Kindle lately, but I really prefer books. A new JeffCo library is opening in our area next year, and I can’t wait! I already told my husband that I will be hanging out there all the time. 🙂

We are almost finished watching the complete series og The Chosen. I’m finding it poignant and thought-provoking.

  10. Busy weekend—we volunteer at our community’s historical society, and our group had an “open house” at the pioneer home ruins this weekend, where we informed visitors about its interesting history. Today, we also hiked a long trail in Deer Creek Canyon Park–I wanted to see the burn scar and restoration work that was done. I’m really tired now….lol….out of shape!

PS My best friends live all over the US so we keep in touch using WhatsApp

  11. The look on Chole’s sweet puppy face is priceless.
    Enjoy your weekend.
    Karen B.

  12. Hey, Laura, thanks for sharing my whtie bean dip recipe. It is so yummy! I havne’t read your book club selections, but they both look good. Put them on my “to read” list. I’m not into dystopian either. I’m watching The Discovery of Witches on Netflix.

    1. Thanks Carol! Oh I need to check out the Netflix show! Happy 4th of July!
      laura

  13. It is too hot outside to do anything…boo hoo!

I have been going through file cabinets, purging a lot of old papers. I realized I saved so much from old magazines as “important info” and then never looked at it again.

Our book club book this month was “We Solve Murders” by Richard Osman. It was OK — I’m getting tired of his format, as this is the 4th book by him that we read. Next month is “James.”

    Stay cool!

  14. I detest road cones..and yes..you are so correct that I never see lip lines on a man..it’s just not fair!😫

  15. I just did a post about the books I’ve read recently. I hope you’re having a good week!

  16. I just did a book post last week.. maybe you can find some inspiration there.
It’ll be nice to have one of the kids home. What NYC heat.. we have had three solid rainy days in the 60’s but yes tomorrow will all of a sudden be 98 degrees.. so make sense.
We do have a big trip planned over the summer.

  17. Your bathroom looked pretty pre-renovation–make sure to post a photo of the post-renovation. Our bathroom could use an update, but I don’t want to deal with all the mess, so it will remain a 90s early 2000 bathroom…lol

We have another Richard Osman book scheduled for our June book club, called “We Solve Murders.” It was chosen by the same member who had us read two of his other books.

My granddaughters are getting older, so soon I’ll have to redecorate their “Sleep Over” bedroom in our house–it is hard to believe how quickly children outgrow things. I gave away a lot of my grandchildren’s toys to friends with new grandchildren. It’s very nostalgic to have to do all of that for a second time in life!

Enjoy your June company! June ia a birthday month for 3 of us!

    1. Hi Pat, yes the mess is a hassle. We made the decision to update now, enjoy it and then when we downsize it will have good bones for the next homeowner.
Loved you travel post from this weekend! xo laura

  18. I thought we were going to see the After reno project!
I am on Season 2 of Hacks! I love Jimmy, the talent agent…he’s so cute! The whole cast is hilarious! I agree-there are some scenes that don’t need to be included. Just allude to it-that’s enough.

  19. I’m with you…some books can seem so formulated that I find I know what’s going to happen before it does! I used to be in a book club. I loved it!
    Have a great weekend.

  20. That 4th of July floral/flag arrangement is so cute!
I need a good book, but I’m tired of fiction. I may go back and read the classics again.
They may be old, but they aren’t tired.
I’m going to have to go the JCO webiste now. Thank you very much.

    1. CALL ME I promise not to do laundry or take calls from evan ;0)

  21. You need to plan a trip to Alaska! That is so cool, my SIL’s dad & mom just did the trip and it was her dad’s last state to visit as well. I haven’t watched that show but I was thinking of checking it out but there are too many things to watch. I’m only part way through YOU’s last season, so I’m way behind. The birds do wake me sometimes before dawn. Crazy about the bears! We had a big graduation this past weekend (CG #1). Hope you had a great weekend1

  22. I am watching Friends & Neighbors and am enjoying it.
You was so crazy and the finale was just crazy.. not really a fan.
That is so cool about your husband.. does he have a favorite?

  23. No bucket list, but I’m impressed your husband has been to every state except Alaska. You definitely need to visit Alaska. I’ve been getting my flower beds in shape for the upcoming season.
    Karen B.

  24. Laura, 1. you have to go to Alaska. It is so beautiful and very special.
    2. Thank you for sharing my spray painted lamps. I love them. As soon as I can find the right color, I have another pair of glass lamps to paint.
    3. Children’s Medical is a wonderful hospital. My sorority alum group outfitted their pediatric cardio library years ago. If you come to visit your niece, you HAVE to visit me.

  25. I’m afraid to take pictures! Know it’s not good, especially since we cut the top of the living room shelves! Can’t wait to get the fireplace!

  26. Smother…😆!! That’s hysterical. I hadn’t heard that before, but I’m sure sometimes my girls would agree!!!

  27. tricia becker says:

Hmmm…maybe Debra From ELR minus MIL and kids?
IDK. You are Claire for sure!

  28. Neither.. my husband and I divide our chores in a way that I don’t have to do anything outside the house.
I would love a grapefruit mocktail.. I can sip it while I watch him work 🙂

  29. Our book club has been reading all of Richard Osman’s Murder Club books one by one–fun and light reading. This month was Kristen Hannah’s “The Women” — it was a little long and drawn out in my opinion–I liked the first half of the book–could have ended it there!

We haven’t begun outdoor clean-up as yet—we’ve been busy with grandkids’ sports, etc. We have a very large wood retaining wall behind us—there is no chance of passing fire mitigation because of that, plus a few large trees near our house I don’t have the heart to cut them down.

  30. Thank you so much for sharing my birthday story! I so appreciate you! Such a fun round up!
    Happy day!
    KariAnne
