THE WEEKEND EDIT FIRST JOB STORIES
Happy Weekending! I am running around the city showing houses this weekend to FTB’s (first-time home buyers). The hardest part of my job as a real estate agent is finding the house. The Google Maps bots must know this about me because my reroutes take me to parking lots. I am reminded how far I have come since my first high school job that included a uniform with a short sleeve 100% polyester shirt and matching elastic waist pants. I greeted the customers with …
WELCOME TO MCDONALDS MAY I TAKE YOUR ORDER?
learned many life lessons that summer while standing behind the counter ringing up orders. I would get home with new lingo like “down a cheese” which meant I needed a cheeseburger to slide down the shute pronto! This got me thinking:
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

Please share in the comments, a text message, or an email! I would love to hear those stories!

Dearest Laura,
“Down a cheese???” Hahahaha!! So so funny!😂
I hadn’t thought about my “TastyFreeze” job in many years!! I was 14 as I stood in an assembly line to make burgers to go out a drive through window. I was “in love” with the idea of being able to show the world my creativity with food! But alas … the line was so fast I fell behind and those poor folks, waiting in there buggy’s, got burgers without their ketchup … some without their pickles … some with too much mustard! The job only lasted the day as the manager said, “Tauni, I don’t think you are cut out for this kind of work.” And I remember thinking as I was leaving, “It’s ok!! (Removing a sticky pickle from my shoe) I didn’t like smelling like a French fry allll day long!”
However, that job … and my only ever “conventional” job, was an eye opener!! I really appreciate the work that goes into getting my cup of “joe” to the window!!
Kindest Regards,
Tauni
Love this Tauni! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Laura, my first job was typing (on a typewriter) prescription labels at a pharmacy for the pharmacist to fill the prescription. I wasn’t even driving yet and they trusted me to do this. It made me so nervous. I think I lasted two weeks.
McDonalds!! “Would you like fries with that?”
I knew it! I think we bonded over our McDonalds! I bet you were funnier at the counter
Haha, McDonald’s. Did you eat the fries for free? 😊
My first job was at a chain of young adult clothing stores called Judy’s. I loved clothes in high school and decided that the discount I would get at my job could help. As you might imagine, the check amounted to much less when I did the math on what I had purchased during the month.
I guess we all have to start somewhere.

I’m probably going to be in the minority but I have never held a 9-5 kinda job. I interneted back in college for free at a print shop and after college I have always had a freelance work from home kind of gig.
HI Hena, I think freelance is the best of both worlds! xo laura
My first job was as a “Vincenteen” which was a teenage nurse’s aide job at St Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Sadly, the hospital is now closed. The hospital offered these jobs in the late 960s to encourage girls to become nurses. I worked five days a week during the summer and on weekends during the school year. They paid us $1,50 an hour! I did eventually become an RN so it was a great encouragement.
