THE WEEKEND EDIT- DID I WATER THE PETUNIAS?
Happy Weekending! The other night I settled under the covers and was so excited to fall asleep to the sound of the rain outside our bedroom window. But the more I listened to the bucket-size raindrops my thoughts turned to my petunias on the front porch.
I should move the petunias to the porch steps to take advantage of all of this rain. But I was so comfy. Did I water them today? Oh geez, did I water them yesterday?
Were they thirsty? Now my pre-bed routine morphed into guilt. So I threw back the covers, skipping the slippers next to my bed, and ran down the two flights of stairs to relocate the Costco-size plastic pots (included with purchase) to the preferred porch step seating.

Once I confirmed they were getting rained on, I ran back inside, locked the front door, and retreated to my side of the bed, knowing my petunias, basil, and tomatoes would live another day thanks to the earth’s free drip system.
And then I realized …
I was officially an empty nester.
WATCHING + READING + LOVING
The creators of Book of Mormon and South Park are investors in this tourist-loving restaurant in Denver. Last Christmas (can you believe Christmas in July is on its way), our kids gave us tickets to see the Book Mormon this weekend in Denver.
This tip keeps me from worrying about my dogs having access to water. Of course, Elliott just drinks out of the bird bath or water fountain.
- I just started Society of Shame by Jane Roper. It’s funny!
- My friend Carol shared how she painted this vintage dresser with chalk paint.
- Check out Kim’s recipe for a chicken crust pizza! I heard about this one!
- Have you tried the cauliflower crust pizza at Costco?
- These adhesive hooks solve lots of problems for renters and homeowners!
- Have you tried a jumpsuit? Got my eye on this one from the LOFT
- This looks cute too, but if I am wearing white I will spill coffee (or tea) on it.

Hi, Sweet friend. Thanks for sharing my vintage dresser makeover. It’s still one of my very favorite projects.
It is beautiful Carol! Emailing you later! xo laura
Hi Laura,
The water hack for the dog is great. Bentley (my Bernedoodle) is a voracious drinker. I really keep an eye on his water bowl, especially during the warmer months of summer. Thanks for the tip.
Have a great weekend.
Karen B.
Thank you Karen! I know I used it today when I was cleaning out the garage. I fill it up on Sunday nights for the next week and add water as needed! xo laura
Hi Laura I came by for the patriotic post but it wasn’t up. ??? I love how your transformed your entry. Have a Yankee Doodle dandy of a day!
I’m the same way with white! I’ve just bought two new white button downs and shorts so let’s see if I can keep them coffee free! That was smart to move the petunias out into the rain. I like to do that too. We use a lot of those adhesive hooks here and for our girls’ apartments. Did you find a new tv show? I’m still thinking for you!!
