Quick Trip to Dallas with Mark Cuban
It is a beautiful morning in Colorado with no humidity. After a quick trip to Dallas with my youngest (and a Mark Cuban sighting) I was ready to return to “cooler” temps.
Evan was ready for me to stop talking.
Together, we survived navigating the highways and overpasses of Dallas (the overpasses feel like a luge event at the Winter Olympics.
DALLAS TRIP
We were there to get Evan (this son) settled into a short-term rental for the duration of his summer internship.
LUNCH AT HONOR BAR
Evan got a break from his mom’s defensive (cautious driving habits), when I met my blogging friend, Preppy Empty Nester, for lunch at Honor Bar.
Is it just me or could we pass as sisters? She would be the dressy one and I would be the one in flip-flops because I packed for a quick trip that included trips to Target.
I was sweating in this photo.
Coloradans do not do well in humidity. And neither does my hair! Katie and I talked incessantly for two hours, and compared bloggers we know.
MARK CUBAN
While waiting for my driver, Evan, to pick me up (talk about role reversal) Katie and I walked through a few shops.
Katie-M (aka this Preppy Empty Nester) recognized Mark Cuban.
In full disclosure, I had no idea who was three feet from us. Katie acknowledged she was a fan, but that did not help me with this celebrity, billionaire sighting.
He was shopping at the mile-high stores where one could shell out more money than we owe on our mortgage.
I was underdressed and Mark had on a black t-shirt and sneakers. I thought maybe he was a celebrity chef.
He was friendly and unassuming. I learned Mark Cuban attended the same high school as several of Evan’s college friends. If I had known this I would have worked it into the 3-second conversation.
GREAT GRANDPARENTS
That same day, Evan and I found the home of his great-grandparents and Evan’s grandfather. I wanted a photo of Evan in front of his grandfather’s childhood home. We knocked on the front door and explained Evan’s relationship to the previous owners. Evan and I explained his great-grandparents lived there in 1945 and showed a photo we had of his grandfather and his brother standing in front of the home.
We explained Evan’s great-grandfather moved from this house when he accepted a position on General MacArthur’s staff during the post-war reconstruction in Japan.
The current owner was happy to let us take a few photos in the front yard.
And today.
Grandmother Mary would be thrilled that their home and neighborhood were beautifully maintained. I do not remember the name of the neighborhood but it was less than ten minutes away from the Honor Bar.
On a separate day, Evan and I drove to McKinney, to the historic district, to check out the shops. We walked into the cutest home decor store with the Rae Dunn ceramicware. Evan pulled out his phone, snapped a photo, and texted his siblings. They all tease me about my salt shakers and serving trays with the familiar black and white design.
I think the store was birds & words.

Yes, Dallas is an experience with the driving to say the least! Glad you had a good time though and got to meet a fellow blogger. There are several of us around here. We meet up occasionally and it’s so encouraging.
