Hi friends! How are you? I had a tennis match the other night and played with my friend Michelle. As I watched her hit the fuzzy yellow ball cross-court her strokes were smooth like a Nutribullet blended Smoothie. Just smooth

And my tennis strokes were more like the 30-year-old Farberware blender we got as a wedding gift. The parts are still there, but the motor is strained and clunky with sudden stops. That familiar clunky sound when it gets stuck ( like in no man’s land if you know tennis lingo).

It just occurred to me right this minute that maybe if I was focused on the match and not my blender analogy we might have won.

But the blender analogy works for so many of the things in our lives. Sometimes the lessons are in the older, reliable appliance than in the new, flashier Smeg models.

Sidenote: I do own and love my Smeg coffee maker despite the poor design and negative reviews.

Do you ever feel like an appliance?

It makes me giggle to type the question. But sometimes my days and are just clunky and all I really need is a moment to unplug.

I like your blender analogy, even though I know you are a better tennis player than you think! Most days I feel like a hand-held mixer when the beaters are going too fast and the mix goes flying everywhere. No bueno.

I am NOT clicking the links this week because I purchased two items last week-one we needed (solar lights) the other was in no way needed (another sweater). However, seeing the blankets makes me want to bring out the plaid blankets!

  2. Hi Laura,
We’re experiencing such terrible heat and humidity. I’m hoping it will change soon. The weather forecast is promising a cool down next week. I have started putting out some pumpkins and a few autumn decorations.
Best to you for the rest of the weekend.

  3. Even if a bit like a Farberware it’s great that you still go out and play.
While I haven’t read Anxious People yet I did love his book Beartown. Though it is not a light book. It deals with a lot of heavy topics.

  4. I will have to check out that book. I need a funny one! I’m sure you’re still rockin’ it on the courts! Cute sweater!
