THE WEEKEND EDIT + IT’S A SMALL WORLD

July 16, 2022

Good morning! All of us in Denver were spoiled this month with late-day clouds and showers.

I love it because cloudy skies turn my thoughts to pumpkins and candles.

What is your favorite season?

Thank you for all of your tips and suggestions after last week’s post.

Do you know what no one mentioned to take their minds off news and events?

Anyone?

Pinterest! While you all read The Weekend Edit I cleaned up my Pinterest boards in preparation for the fall frenzy!

In amazing news, I showed properties this week that were still on the market after seven days.

Do you see these pretty blue and white coasters in this tray? I have a small world story.

I found them at the cutest shop in McKinney, Texas when I took my youngest to Dallas for his summer internship. It turns out, that a woman who worked at this decor store had a son who played soccer at the same university my son Evan attends. It was a random question of why are you in Dallas to oh my gosh my son went to the University of Dayton!

The the is not trademarked at the University of Dayton like another university in the state of Ohio.

Isn’t it crazy how a 30-second chit-chat at the checkout turns into a small world story?

I just love small world stories. If only I could remember the name of the store where I found these coasters and the Dayton connection. Anyone from McKinney?

THE WEEKEND EDIT +JULY MADNESS

July 9, 2022

Hello, how are you? My heart is heavy. How do I talk about decor ideas when I listened to a father recall how he hid his young son in a dumpster on the 4th of July?

My husband and I react differently to events. One of us processes internally and other one just unleashes a wave of nonsensical sentences.

He thinks like a programmer and can put his emotions into boxes. Where my emotions tend to be strewn out on a conveyor belt at Kroger.

He can sort his emotions linearly, whereas I think like a ninth-grader working on an algebra word problem.

They always start something like this …

If a train is traveling . ..

Stop. I already have questions.

What type of train? How many cars are attached to the train?

What type of cargo is on the train that might impact speed?

So like a word problem, our conversations resemble a merry-go-round.

One of us talks in circles. And it feels very much like the state of current events.

It is exhausting and emotionally draining.

So I want to ask all of you amazing women (and men) how do you find peace in all of the madness?

And in another form of madness, how do we eliminate the Kardashians from the news feeds?

Did you see that? I can only take so much seriousness and then I have to cut away to a joke.

And, now I only want to watch Jennifer Garner’s fake cooking show in my Instagram feed. (please follow).

In the meantime, this is what helps me. I would love to know what helps you find balance or peace.

NEW HABITS

  • I start most mornings on the treadmill to clear my head.
  • I stopped watching the news 2 1/2 years ago
  • except for my BIL’s news feed & his service and sacrifice series.
  • I started a garden.
  • I end most nights with a book to quiet my mind.
  • I practice showing grace to others in my car. I give up a parking space, I wave to let a person merge.

Thank you for letting me share in a safe place I call Everyday Edits. Next week I will return to a healthy dose of snarcasm (snarky meets sarcasm). I love your comments and opinions and suggestions. I love this little community! Thank you!

WEEKEND FINDS + RANDOM STUFF AT EVERYDAY EDITS

THE WEEKEND EDIT + HELLO JULY

July 2, 2022

Happy Saturday!

The Colorado Avalanche won. I love the post-game interviews because it reminds all of us to never give up and to do the work to get the results we want. It is also a reminder to wear a mouth guard.

My sister already found this dress for our daughter’s wedding in 2023.

Everything is on sale at Pottery Barn including this cozy, sherpa pom-pom blanket. I have it in red.

Speaking of Sherpa, I ordered these Jack Rogers boots (for fall/winter weather). Comfy. Read reviews for sizing. And while I was on their site I found these! On sale!!

This vintage-inspired bathroom mirror is on sale! If you have a dated bathroom a little paint and this mirror will bring it into 2022! #realtorlife

I signed up for this bucket list item. My son’s university hosts this event. I plan to text him to meet for coffee in between classes! :0)

The same son texted m for a fun fact about him. It was for an internship mixer. But it was a great reminder to create a fun facts list about someone in your life and share it with them.

  • 3-time state tennis champion
  • never been stung by a bee
  • hates buttons

My husband’s fun fact? He caddied for Leslie Nielsen from Caddy Shack & Airplane.

This is the list I texted to Evan off the top of my mind!

It was easier than relaying a Chick-Fil-A order in the drive-thru for a car full of kids and a husband.

WEEKEND FINDS + RANDOM STUFF AT EVERYDAY EDITS

  • Taking book suggestions! I am on a waitlist for The Golden Couple & Nightingale.
  • I shared a favorite no-bake cookie recipe. The boiling time is exactly 1 minute.
  • I love this fluttered, sleeveless top! I ordered a small. And it’s on sale!
  • I do love glassware. These are on sale this weekend.
  • Do you recognize this wreath from Homegoods/ Marshalls? I change the ribbon every season! It is a decor staple at my house! The door paint color is Kendall Charcoal.
