HALLOWEEN CHEX MIX

October 12, 2020

Bugles, pumpkin spice and candy corn make this Halloween Chex Mix                                 a new favorite treat.

I made five pounds of Halloween Chex mix and shipped four pounds to eleven college boys at three different universities.

It’s okay if you have to re-read that sentence. Not only is it closing in on Halloween, but it is also a care package season. I was happy to make (and sample)  this easy to ship salty-sweet combination of cereal, pretzels, chocolate and the autumn staple; candy corn.

The Gouhl M&M’s make this a Halloween theme Chex Mix as opposed to a harvest Chex mix.

With my boys away at school and in semi-isolation in the midwest, I wanted to send them a “shelf-stable” homemade treat. Versus, something they could order on our family’s Amazon account.

HALLOWEEN CHEX MIX

This Halloween mix includes the standard base of rice cereal, pretzel twists and peanuts. But this recipe adds Bugles, M&M’s and candy corn to give it the tastiest of flavors.

It is addictive. It’s like Bugle and candy corn crack mix with pumpkin spice flavors.

I ate 1 cup of the 2nd batch in the time it took to write the first paragraph.

The secret to this recipe is the pumpkin spice coating. It is a melted combination of butter, brown sugar and a generous serving of pumpkin spice. Yum!

Make sure you have pumpkin spice in your pantry and no substitutions on this spice. If you have read my blog for a minute you know I love an ingredient substitution.
