SURPRISING IDEAS FOR CAKE STANDS
I blame my collection of cake stands on Hobby Lobby and HomeGoods.
I live between both stores, which leads to a “quick look” over the lunch hour.

I started to collect cake stands for our for the living room library wall my husband designed.
And for my love of bundt cakes. I will take most cake recipes and bake them in a bundt pan. A bundt pan makes every cake look pretty.
And then a close friend gave me a beautiful cake plate with a wood-grain base and a marble top.
It deserved to be on display year-round and not just for a celebration with cake.
And with a modest collection of varying sizes, I found a way to repurpose them for year-round
It turns out cake plates are the best way to elevate a tablescape or centerpiece.
And Hobby Lobby, Target (dollarish section), and Home Goods have 6″ cake plates in seasonal colors.
Somewhere between March and October, I went from the white 6″ cake plate to a Crayola box of colorful cake plates.
The biggest issue was that the seasonal colors made it difficult to use in the “off-season.” I cannot use an orange cake plate for the 4th of July.
And this dilemma of how to repurpose the cake plates.
It allows me to disguise or justify my obsession with petite and 10″ cake stands.
The purpose of a cake stand is to elevate and protect the cake (or cupcakes).
Because cake wrapped in aluminum foil never looks as pretty as a cake plate I found other uses to justify one more cake stand.

- Elevate small potted plants on top of a cake stand. It draws your attention tot he collection.
2. Use a cake stand to add height to a tablescape or buffet on a kitchen island.
3. The varying heights make for a fuller centerpiece!
4. I use my cake stands to corral olive oil salt and pepper shakers and popular spices next to the oven.
The “elevation” keeps the counter from looking cluttered.
5. I use my 6″ cupcake size stands for soap dispenser or a collection of votive candles.
6. I pulled grass from my own yard, repotted itand placed it on my cake plate for a fun addition to my kitchen window.
7. Not all cake plates need to be seen. I placed a faux plant on a cake plate, tukedt the plate into a larger basket. It made my faux plant look larger.
