The best way to get over the holiday letdown is to embrace the cozy months of winter. With a strand of lights and garland, here are a few simple, cozy winter decor ideas you can make now to celebrate the season.

I do a slow rollback with the Christmas decor. Ornaments and bells that jingle are stored away first. The decor staples I lean into in January are:

a few strands of garland
strands of fairy lights
pinecones
snow-covered branches
berry stems (think Valentine’s Day)

I love the garland on top of my dining room hutch. The hutch borrows the light for the living room to give it a glow as the sun sets below the mountain range.

I create a similar look on the dining room window ledge.

I mix berry stems and these snow-covered branches with Valentine’s Day around the corner.

So, a little bit of greenery and snow-clumped (faux) branches will be on full display.

With a combination of lights, lanterns, and faux and real candles, I created a very warm winter vibe in the dining room.

The best news is you do not need a dining room to decorate a window!

After the New Year I remove the ornaments but leave the lights on the Christmas tree.

I almost appreciate the tree more without the ornaments.
