Fall is my favorite time of year. What is your favorite season? With cooler temps and earlier sunsets, it is the perfect time to share quick fireplace hearth fall decor ideas.

Exciting news: These ideas work just as well on a side table or kitchen island if you do not have a fireplace.

HEARTH FALL DECOR

ANATOMY OF THE HEARTH

f you need a refresher on the anatomy of a fireplace I got it covered.

Everything I know about fireplaces is based on Little House on the Prairie. I read this article that explains the anatomy of a fireplace. The stone hearth has built-in seating. If it is fall my stone slab has pumpkins.

Here are my favorite ideas to decorate a fireplace. Use your imagination and have some fun this fall!

GO-TO DECOR

Here are a few of my go-to items I use to bulk up my fall decor.

leaf garlands
twigs. sticks and pinecones
pumpkins (real and fake)
lanterns

My best fall decor ideas are the ones that take two minutes to layer fall stems, pinecones, and pumpkins to any solid surface.

If done correctly it looks amazing. If it’s just a smidge too much it resembles a Home goods shelf in the clearance aisle .

This is my go-to for September. I love the giant pumpkin next to the leafy fern.

You know how I love a bucket! It is one of my go-to decor staples.

I added the bucket and fall berry stems to add height to the hearth.

BUCKET

This is the same bucket of stems. All I did was move the bucket to the opposite side of the hearth. Do not overthink design decisions that do not require measurements.

JUST ADD PUMPKINS AND GOURDS

This is my favorite fall decor tip! Just add pumpkins and gourds. Toss them in a bowl, basket, or tray. I like to mix and match real and faux pumpkins!

BASKET

I found this basket at Goodwill. It set me back maybe $3.00 and it has become a staple on the 14″ stone hearth. Keeping with the transition from summer to fall I added greenery and pumpkins to the basket.

If the Goodwill basket looks familiar it is a decor staple at my house! I tossed a few fall stems into the basket.

WREATH

One of my favorite one-hour projects is to do this with a wreath.

This career change wreath went from the front door to the fireplace. I added a lantern to the center of the wreath. It adds texture to the stone surface and the lantern (with real or battery-operated candles) adds a glow.

TIPS

It’s all about scale. Go bigger with your accessories. If they are too small they get lost.
Have fun. Find a basket or crate and see what you can create!
If you don’t have a hearth (or a fireplace) you can use these same ideas on a ledge, side table, or as a dining room centerpiece.
