NEW USES FOR LANTERNS
Years ago, I went through a hurricane lantern phase. I found this decor site and ordered lanterns of all shapes and sizes. I did the same thing at Homegoods and Target. Over time, I had to find new uses for lanterns.
Because, like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally, I never carried a lantern during a power outage. She had the same but different example.
Initially, I envisioned using a glass lantern during a power outage. The lights were out, but we still had Wi-Fi and Peacock.
I blame it on my obsession with Little House on the Prairie.
The Ingalls family used hurricane lanterns the way I use motion sensor lights. Sometimes, you need one to light the way (or under the kitchen sink).
Thankfully, I inherited the repurpose gene from my parents, and I found a few cute ideas for repurposing lanterns. I still use candles (real and/or battery-operated), depending on where I place the lantern.
NEW USES FOR LANTERNS
In my quest to clear out the clutter, I looked at my decor and how I could use it in more ways than intended.
This is a good rule of thumb for those purchases that teeter between need and want.
I got the idea when I repurposed wreaths into centerpieces.
I found a pair of matching lanterns at Target years ago. For fun, I added a bag of speckled eggs for a spring center centerpiece. It took me less than 15 seconds to make this.
The candle is optional.
Lanterns are great for corraling a collection of seasonal or everyday objects :
- speckled eggs
- mini pumpkins
- faux mini plants
- wine corks
- loose change
- office supplies
- spices
. Use a lantern to store greeting cards or photos.
Fill a glass lantern with family photos on a coffee table or at the dinner table inviting family members to look at the everyday photos (moments).
Make sure to include the funny ones!
In the spring, I use the larger lantern as a mini terrarium.
It contains water, and the handle makes moving the plant easily to get more or less light.
I am obsessed with faux mini-potted plants. I love the simplicity of the faux plants in the lantern. This is a look to duplicate.
