TRAVEL TIP BEFORE A TRIP

Do you remember when I left more instructions for Elliott than when my sister babysat our kids?

Here is the travel tip I missed before we flew the friendly skies!

Well, all the instructions I was not prepared us for a call from our dog sitter.

Our garage door opener was broken.

It was the only access to feed, walk, and socialize with Elliott.

He was inside, but the dog sitter frantically reyped the garage code.

We had a keyless entry code for our garage entry door. But, the dog sitters could not get into the garage door to open.

We were able to open it remotely with an app, one last time, before the garage door stopped operating.

The dog sitter asked if we had a key to the property.

The irony of this question was that I have a 1/2 dozen lockboxes in our garage (Realtor life). And I ask owners for two keys or codes in case an agent accidentally leaves the property with the only key in their pocket!

With the last ounce of “juice” the dog sitters were able to open and close the garage door and unlock a side door to feed and check on Elliott. during the remaining two nights of our trip.

It was on our list to get a keyless entry lock for our door. But we never anticipated the garage door opener to break.

The good news is Elliott was clueless and happily greeted his dog sitters through our side door until we returned home.

I felt awful for our dog sitters (we have the same team every time we travel, for the inconvenience and stress.

My first thought was to call the fire department.

My husband was not a fan of THAT option.

He reminded me that Elliott was not in distress.

For this week’s tip, leave a “vintage lock box” to keep a key on your property. With all the apps and AI technology … we went old-school with a lockbox and the kind of key that opens doors, not secured login “keys.”
