AMAZING IDEAS FOR POP-UP LAUNDRY HAMPERS
In the last year, we inherited several pop-up laundry hampers. You know the laundry bins that kids take to college. The bins returned home safely with dirty laundry and a roommate’s monogrammed towel. I designated a Homegoods fabric-covered pop-up hamper for guests or kids when they are home for the holidays.
But with redefining our kids’ childhood bedrooms, I found a few ideas on how to use pop-up hampers for other items instead of dirty towels.
HOW TO REPURPOSE POP-UP HAMPERS
I almost donated the mesh laundry hampers, but it turns out, they are useful for storing items other than dirty towels.
STORAGE TIPS
- the mesh wrap hides the contents of the hamper.
- the mesh fabric and the shape make them a flexible storage option (literally).

USES FOR POP-UP LAUNDRY HAMPERS
Here are a few suggestions for these flexible mesh cylinders.
- SEASONAL PILLOWS
Holiday and seasonal pillows take up a lot of closet space. Or if you stored them in dry cleaning bags, like me, you likely found them sliding off the top closet shelf faster than you got off the step ladder to store them.
. But the holiday-themed pillows like this DIY ghost pillow, are great to toss in the bin and keep in a closet until needed.
2. BLANKETS
A few years ago I decided I had to have a farmhouse blanket ladder. I ordered it on Etsy and it arrived in one piece. It was solid wood with rungs to hold throws.
The only thing is no one in the family hung up the blankets. Instead, they either left them on the couch or stuffed the throws in between the ladder’s wood rungs.
And the blanket ladder cluttered the wall with scrunched-up blankets that resembled Homegoods on Saturday night.
So I knew a hamper would be great to hold the seasonal throws. It makes it easy to wash and store in the bin for the next season.
WREATHS
I have a few too many wreaths which is ironic because I talk about how wreaths serve multi-purpose roles with this decor idea.
And somehow I added three new wreaths to my Christmas collection
So much for following my downsizing tips.
But wreaths are the perfect size and shape for the round pop-up hampers.
HOLIDAY DECOR
I store my Christmas garland in those heavy red bins. I think the garland might be too heavy for the mesh hamper, but I store my faux pumpkins and gourds in thelaundry bins. They are easy to haul up and down the stairs and I can see what’s inside the bin without removing the lid.

So the next time you see a pop-up laundry hamper at a dollar store or in the Target $5ish aisle take a second look at what you could store in a nylon mesh bag that won’t break your back.

My friend with 5 kids had a very small house, she used them for laundry, I bought a few and now have used them for my laundry the past 20 years. They are so much lighter than the traditional heavy clothes basket and take up exactly zero space, I keep them compressed between my washer and dryer, they are much lighter to carry upstairs as well. Another upside is I always put one in our luggage for dirty laundry in the hotel.
