I love a quarterly deep cleaning weekend. It calms me like yoga without breaking a sweat, which happened when I cleaned our stair railings.

I didn’t intend to clean our DIY stair railings and ballusters on a Saturday afternoon.
But as I ran down the flight of stairs, the railing felt “tacky.”
It reminded me of when the Smucker’s Strawberry jam jar was sticky when the kids made their own PBJ sandwiches (a huge tween milestone).
I guess that is what grime feels like on a wooden staircase.
Because I love a before and after, I grabbed a white rag to confirm the grimy residue. I know, but remember, cleaning calms me.

I grabbed my spray bottle filled with Dawn dish soap and vinegar. These are my cleaning staples!
With these two cleaning agents, I get a combo that tackles my biggest cleaning jobs.
This same cleaning duo saved my wood floors when I ordered a new rug for the family room.
I started with the stair railing leading from the main level to the front door, which receives the most traffic.
I grabbed a scrub sponge in some areas to remove the stubborn grime.
With a non-toxic cleaning solution, I was not worried if the spray landed on the carpet or the wood floors.
