HOW TO REPURPOSE A LIVE WREATH
Every November we grab a live wreath at Costco. Just like their roasted chickens, the wreaths are the best deal for their size and freshness.
But with a south-facing front door, by New Year’s Day, the wreath looks like it enjoyed one too many cheeseballs and cocktails.
So I came up with a fun idea for the front or back yard to repurpose a live wreath.
I turned the live wreath into a bird feeder.
In the spring and summer, I love to make these birdseed cakes, but the wreath was a fun repurpose project for the winter.
I included a few steps on how I made a rest stop. It’s like a Buccees for birds (and squirrels). The squirrels always find out about the party.
HOW TO REPURPOSE A LIVE WREATH
- Remove any berry twigs, pinecones, and any wire used to attach to the wreath
- Purchase a bag of birdseed. Kroger and Target both sell birdseed. This is the bird seed brand I use.
- I added a tiny bit of creamy peanut to hold the bird seed.
- Place it away from your house because you do not want to encourage the squirrels to settle in for a long winter’s nap in your attic via the gutters.
I placed my Costco live wreath on top of the frozen bird bath just outside our dining room.

I miss getting my live wreath from Costco but ours burnt to a crisp last year in just a few weeks with the sunny front door and storm door. I love your idea to repurpose your live wreath.
Same thing happened to our wreath which is how I decided to repurpose the wreath for the birds! It’s like an overxize bird nest!
