Do you remember the television show Square Pegs with SJP? It was on television for like a Hollywood minute. Every time I say the word square or use it in a sentence I think of that show. So now that I have distracted you with the greatest 80’s television shows here is how to make a square wreath with little effort.

And, I do mean little effort and little cost because chances are you have everything you need. You don’t have to leave your house; just shop your craft drawer, closet or room. The hardest part of this square wreath is cutting straight edges for your square.
Square Wreath Supplies:
- Shipping box
- Stock paper, wrapping paper, retailer bag, etc.
- Glue, Scissors
- Previously purchased wreath or grapevine & ribbon

This is the easiest wreath I have made, considering the only other wreath I ever made was this one from a garage sale.
I love the idea of a square wreath because let’s face it 90% of our wreaths are likely in the shape of a circle.

I had no idea where I was running with this one, but in an attempt to clean out my basement I found many unfinished or well-intentioned craft projects that went dormant during the holidays.

So it was a shop my basement type of wreath.
To make the square wreath, I used a repurposed cardboard shipping box. I had several cardboard boxes from this popular retailer. I love to use shipping boxes because they are sturdy enough to travel across the country in the back of a truck or plane. So surely they will hold up to my family and our Berners, Chloe & Elliott.

I choose this fun, grey checked card stock I had in the basement. You could easily cover the cardboard square with wrapping paper or fabric.

I added a small wreath to layer over the base of my square wreath. I punched two holes to thread the ribbon/twine to attach the wreath to the cardboard.

This particular wreath was too small for the front door and ended up in the clearance aisle at Homegoods. By adding a larger, square backdrop I just increased the size of the wreath.

That’s it! I have this spring wreath hanging on my home office French door. I love the blue and green combo- I shared my obsession with this color combo in this idea-filled post.

This was a fun way to make a square wreath (there I go thinking about Square Pegs) and I pulled everything from my basement that tends to resemble a Homegoods on January 2nd.
