HOW TO GET RID OF ANTS IN YOUR HOME

Raise your hand if you ever stayed out past curfew. Were you, like me, at the front door hoping your parents were watching Johnny Carson so they could not hear the deadbolt click to the right?

Well, it turns out ants have the remarkable ability, with a million years of practice, to infiltrate a property.

HOW TO GET RID OF ANTS (NON-TOXIC WAY)

I shared this ant issue on the Weekend Edit Saturday morning. It turns out, ants have the remarkable ability to infiltrate a property Jack Ryan style.

INVASION OF THE ANTS

The other morning this son discovered a king’s ant army climbing along our kitchen baseboards and walls on the main level.

The ants were not marching 2×2 but more like 2200×2200. This is how we got rid of an invasion of ants in our home.

WHY NOW?

So I googled ” ant infestation summer of 2023″ and found a few reasons behind the July march madness. It turns out, like humans, rain motivates insects to move indoors. Colorado has had a ton of rain since April (that is the official recording- a ton).

My son suspected the dog food bowls were a likely smorgasbord of kibble for these six-legged insects.

A NON-TOXIC SOLUTION TO GET RID OF ANTS IN THE HOUSE

STEPS TO GET RID OF ANTS IN YOUR HOUSE

  • Do not panic. We panicked and were grabbing bleach and looked for bug spray.
  • Do not reach for the Raid bug spray… yet
  • We searched the perimeter of our exterior near our Dutch door.
  • We found no evidence of an entry point, but they marched along the baseboards headed to our lower level. our lower level.

NON-TOXIC SOLUTION

My husband had a can of bug spray in the garage, but I preferred the more economical and non-toxic solution of equal parts vinegar and water in one of my go-to made-in-USA spray bottles. .

With a roll of paper towels and spray bottles of vinegar and water Evan and I divided and conquered (sprayed) the legions of ants. I ended up with cleaner walls and baseboards so it was like a two-for-one. We had to spray a second time later in the day, but so far we have reclaimed the main floor with vinegar and water tactics.

By the next morning a quick check showed no signs of the ants.

But now? I can’t stop scratching my scalp.
