HOW TO CLEAN DISHES WITH STUCK ON FOOD
I could be on a future Dateline episode. You know where the wife just goes off on her husband or significant other for offenses that only other women could understand (and return a non-guilty verdict.
This week’s tip is one to file away for the holidays
When offers to help with the dishes mean loading the dishwasher with plates that look like they were left on the fire pit.
Or, when there is no evidence of a good scrub before the mashed potatoes stick in the corners of my ceramic casserole dishes.
If the dish is lucky, someone adds water to it, but how is it that the water level never reaches the stuck-on food?
Seriously, if you see a Dateline episode about this, you may get reward money!
My usual routine is to fill the dish or pot with hot water and a squirt of Dawn.
But most baked-on dishes need a little more.
My mom adds water and lets the boiling water clean her Farberware pots and pans that have baked-on sauces.
But this does not work with ceramic dishes.
Here is a great tip to save for the holidays after the turkey and pies kick in, when motivation often takes a hit, and all you want to do is head to the couch.
HOW TO CLEAN DISHES WITH STUCK-ON FOOD
- Add water to the dish. Make sure the water line is above the food.
- Add vinegar to the dish (and water) and place it in the microwave.
3. Set the microwave to the time it takes for the water to be hot, but not boiling.
4. Make sure to have oven mitts and keep kids and pets away.
5. Let the water cool just a bit and wear dish gloves.
6. Take the scratchy side of a sponge ( also at Costco) and scrub away the dried-on food.
7 Repeat as necessary.
This process is similar to this wood spoon tip.
If you need a little more oomph, add Dawn dish soap. Repeat.
