HOMEMADE DOG TREATS

It has been five years since we adopted our Bernese Mountain dog puppy. Here is a look back his gotcha day! And, a recipe for homemade dog treats!

Many of you know our other Berner, Chloe recently crossed over this bridge. But today we celebrate Elliott’s give years with our family while Elliott adapts to a life without his older sister, Chloe.

ELLIOTT

Elliott’s adoption was a multi-state rescue-to-adopt and we are over the moon in love.

In a 24-hour window, my husband flew from Denver to Knoxville and back to Denver to bring Elliot to the mile-high city and his fur-ever family!

Everyone breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when Elliot fit into the travel carrier!

My husband’s backup plan was a car rental and 20 + hour drive back to Colorado with an eight-week-old puppy! Whew!

As we navigated the potty training and crate training I wanted to share a homemade puppy treats recipe!

FRONTGATE DOG BED

These homemade puppy chow cookies are an incentive for a job well done in the backyard.

DIY DOG TREATS

Tip: Before Elliot arrived at his fur-ever home, we rolled up the rugs on the main level in preparation for potty training boot camp.

We decided it was easier to take the rugs out of the equation.

CHLOE + TANNER

This is Elliott with our older Bernese Mountain dog, Chloe, who recently crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. The other dog breed we had was Tanner an Australian Shepherd.

The contrast between a Berner and an Australian Shepherd’s personality and endurance is night and day. One was ready for bed at 8 pm and Tanner closed his eyes only after everyone in the house was home and accounted for each night.

HOMEMADE DOG TREATS

When Tanner passed away our hearts made room for a little rescue and Chloe got a little brother.

The homemade dog treats recipe is below.

RESCUES & BREEDERS

Elliott’s adoption was a coordinated effort between the Chattahoochee Bernese Mountain Dog Club, Adopt a Golden- Atlanta and my sister who is a founder of Adopt a Golden- Knoxville. A huge thank you to Elliott’s foster mom who ended up with a litter of puppies when Elliott’s mom went into labor shortly after she was rescued from a hoarding situation.

It took multiple foster families to get Elliot to Colorado and we are fur-ever grateful!

We found Elliott through Adopt a Golden Rescue Knoxville. Both reputable breeders and rescue groups go to great lengths to help you find the right furry family member for you!

Rescue groups and breeders often get puppies so if you are ready for a dog please consider searching both rescue groups and contacting breeders that might have a puppy aging out of the puppy phase.
