HAVE YOU SHOPPED THE DOLLAR STORES?
The first time I heard about a dollar store (now a $ 1.25 store is when my duaghter had to audit one for her first year as an accountant.
It was the first time she had to work the day after Thanksgiving- after two decades of a four-day weekend.
We all have driven by a version of the Dollar Store located in retail centers.
I stopped calling the locations strip malls after I was corrected by a builder representative while showing properties to clients.
I admit retail center sounds more professional.
How many of you are already fans of Dollar-ish stores?
Last year my friends shared shared the finds and items they stock up on from dollar discountstores.
I was intrigued. I mean I love to find deals as long as it is not out of my way.
There is one less than eight miles from our house and is conveniently located by a Home Depot and Sprouts.
The first trip was a little overwhelming.
You start with a basket.
I didn’t know I would fill this basket within minutes.
It was like an all you can eat brunch buffett at Furr’s Cafeteria.d
Or that game show where you can see how many items you can stuff into a shopping car.
Here is the number one reason to shop your local dollar store- greeting cards and office supplies.
If you have purchased a greeting cards at the grocery store you know the cost of one card costs as much as a grande skinny vanilla latte.
It was one of the reasons I talked about this gift giving tip.
But I like to keep a few cards on hand and a dollar-ish store does not disapppoint.
Most recently friend Michelle told me stock up on travel size toothbrushes and toothpaste.
I went a step further down the same aisle and added:
- travel size handsanitizer
- travel size moisturizer
- hair ties (they are over $7.00 at Kroger).
- Tylenol and over the counter meds you always needon a flight or road trip.
- Sharpie pens down the “school aisle.”
- Here are few reasons to take a field trip to a dollar-ish store
- Travel size meds & snacks
- seasonal decor, plates
- garden gloves and garden tools (buy now)!
- Hummingbird feeders (these sell out quickly). Sidenote: Fun DIY birdseed recipe
- baking trays, plastic platters
- poster board for school projects
- Stocking stuffer ideas. My friend Suzanne finds the cutest stocking stuffers at Dollar Stores.
- The inventory changes. I learned if you want some inexpensive bunnies you need to buy them now.

Yes! Its like a treasure hunt.. you never know what you will find.
Barrettes, hair clips, scrunchies, pony tail holders and, occasionally, a hair product. Party stuff, greeting cards and stocking stuffers. Craft stuff…wood items, paint pens, unusual yarn, burlap, faux flowers and greenery, vases, fillers, craft paint, mirrors, craft papers…the list is endless. Inexpensive items throughout the store that can be used for crafting. Cheater glasses and sunglasses. I’ll stop now. My typing finger is tired, lol!
I just hit one today! I hadn’t been in awhile and came home with a good haul. There’s always something good.

I love to hit the Dollar Tree by me for birthday cards and other occassions. The store by me has Hallmark cards! I find a few treasures now and then and it’s always fun to kill time checking out what they have for the current holiday.
