DO THIS WITH YOUR ALUMNI NEWSLETTER
It has to be a slow news day if I sit and read one of our alumni newsletters.
Some alumni newsletters are better than others, but all universities and alma maters have one thing in common-
they all ask for donations.
Our youngest son went to school in Ohio. He has a network of friends that traverses everything east of the Mississippi.
He used to joke that his classmates routinely confused Colorado with California. They are both west of the Mississippi.
The University of Dayton, his alma mater, produces a great quarterly newsletter.
As I started to toss the alumni newsletter into the recycle bin, , this black and white photo caught my attention.
I saw this photo and did a double take. I don’t know if it was the black-and-white photo from the alumni archives or if it could have been my son and his “squad” in a photo ( minus the sweaters, bowties and cheer gear).
The 1925 photo captured the universal enthusiasm for team spirit.
This is the Dayton cheer squad from 1925. The guy in the middle, Archie Leary, , is the captain. Is it just me or does he look older than a college kid?
This photo is where got the idea for this fun idea before you toss your alumni magazine.
But I thought this might be something fun for my youngest when he gets a longer-term lease or furniture that includes a table, chairs, and a bed frame.
Total aside & proud mom brag: This is Evan and his doubles partner Emelio after winning their third state title. They recently reconnected when they realized they were both living and working in NYC.
ALUMNI NESLETTER IDEA
Last fall, I purchased 5×7 black frames on Amazon.
I trimmed the photo’s edges before adding it to a black frame.
That’s it! It is the perfect size for a small apartment in SOHO. And because it is an archive photo from his alma mater, it will be a great conversational starter.
I need to add it to this list of conversation starters.
