This is a year-round seasonal tip, but I just figured this out after a weekend away and found my flower pots on life support.

Unfortunately, my love of yard sales does not carry over to yards, porches, and patios.

I struggle to keep my flower pots alive. Many of you may not be surprised by this detail, given my well documented recipe disasters.

Just as I tend to skip the details (or ingredients) in a recipe, I often forget about my flower pots on the front porch.

And then I got an idea that will get my pots through the last weeks of summer.

Like some of you, I’m not ready to say goodbye to my flowers just yet, but I am ready to pumpkinize, so I had to make a few decisions with my flower pots.

I decided the front porch, with the greatest sun exposure, is not where my flower pots should be located. Not to mention that my garden hose and faucet are just far enough from the porch that my aim is not great when watering the flowers.

Over the weekend, I saw the corner of my back porch (through my camera lens). It resembled a 20-year-old English garden, complete with flagstone steps and patio.

When I saw that image, I knew what I had to do with my aging and sagging … flowers.

Within minutes, I relocated my front-porch flowers to the back porch.

With the water fountain in the background, I created a beautiful setting for the last days of summer.

I consolidated my flower pots

Instead of a few out front and a few on the front porch, I consolidated my flowers into a corner of my patio with water, shade, and a little sun.

I am so in love with the look.

I took this photo over the weekend with grey skies and gentle rain showers.

I have not mastered exterior photography but I love to pull out my DSLR camera and practice.

It was a happy accident when I reviewed my images.
