DO THIS ON YOUR NEXT PHONE CALL

One of my friends describes me as a hummingbird. Whereas, my kids would describe me as a nat. Either way when I am on a non-work phone call I cannot sit still. This is how I adopted the walk-and-talk motto with the friends and family phone package.

This tip will get you to rethink how to maximize your time on the phone ( or in front of an appliance) when you are:

  • on hold for customer support
  • waiting for the spin cycle to finish with 65 seconds left on the clock
  • waiting for morning coffee to brew

No matter what the wait this tip will have you rethinking how to maximize your time when you are on the phone or waiting for an appliance to beep.

Because as long as you do not set your phone settings to FaceTime no one will see you doing squats in front of the microwave.

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG PUPPY OUT FOR A RUN

I like to walk to get my steps, minutes, or miles in for the week. And I am a bit chatty so I just married two of my favorite activities: walking and talking.

This tip is like a two-for-one with the bonus of fresh air, happy dogs, or tired quads.

All you need is a pair of running shoes and who cares if you are in a blouse and summer skirt.

TRY THIS ON A CALL

As long as I don’t need to be in front of a computer and weather permitting- I prefer to walk and talk on the phone.
Remember this Friday afternoon call.

SIGN WHILE ON A RUN

I think it is in my genes to move because my mom, sister daughter and I like to walk and talk. It accomplishes two things at the same time.

My mom was an early adopter of walking before mall walking became a thing. I think because she had five kids to corral.

BENEFITS OF WALKING AND TALKING

The research is consistent: moving our bodies is good for us. It strengthens our minds and muscles. It is a chance to get outside with fresh air, and sunshine (maybe a little rain) and experience the elements outside our home or office.

Walking up a hill while on a phone call is a great way to get fresh air

WALKING BEFORE IPHONES

Two of my three kids live in cities where they can walk or take the Subway to work. They either catch up with friends on their phones or listen to music or podcasts.

This explains why I never wanted to walk as a teenager because the battery life of a Sony Walkman was the length of an English Beat or U2 song. I started to walk and talk as the technology advanced.

About that time my boys started to talk about creating music lists and downloading music on the pre-Iphone device.

What was the early iPhone called?

RUNNING PLAYLIST FOR RUNNING, CLIMBING OR WALKING HILLS

On the days I need more walking and less talking I turn to music or podcasts for a quick break from software glitches and property descriptions.

PLAYLISTS SUGGESTIONS

My friends tease me about my theme playlists, but if it is December chances are I am listening to Michael Buble or Bing Crosby.

  1. Running Playlist
  2. Spring walking playlist
  3. Hills Playlist (slower beat and pace) to climb
  4. Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers- just because
  5. Favorite Podcasts- please share your favorites in the comments!

My sister and I have a standing coffee talk timeslot or coffee walk on Saturday mornings. So while many of you are reading The Weekend Edit (thank you so much) I am catching up with my sister.

Because she is two hours ahead, she calls to tell me what links are broken.

My daughter I inherited the same walk and talke gene so I usually get a call in the late afternoon after she spent a day at her office.

She added these hand weights to her walk routine.

My youngest son, this one, calls me after he gets off the subway. Talking to him on his walk home sounds like he is on the hood of a car while driving through a carwash.

I told him to get off his phone and just walk. Always be safe when walking and talking.

The best benefit of the walk and talk is that the time goes so quickly. I am always surprised that I got three miles in while I catch up with a friend or family member.

It is just a great way to clear my head or stretch my legs or weather permitting get Elliott out for a quick walk.

DESK WALKING

A girlfriend suggested I get the under-desk treadmill. She loves it for work calls, but I don’t know if I can walk, talk, think, and type. I am not the most coordinated treadmill walker.

How many of you like to walk and talk either on the phone or with a walking buddy? What was the funniest thing you did while on hold with customer support?

Thank you for taking sixty seconds out of your busy lives to read this week’s Tuesday tip. Not all tips land like Simone Biles on her floor routines, but I hope these tips make you smile or motivate you to clean, organize, or inspire.

Have a great week it’s almost Wednesday! What are you going to accomplish this week?
