Easy Idea How to Store Bulky Cleaning Products

Now that my nest is shrinking so is my Costco shopping list. I remember when my weekly Costco list included a 24-pack of juice boxes, a case of Kraft Mac & Cheese, and a bag of frozen Dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets. Do not judge. Now my list includes a 3 pack of Kim Crawford and Costco-sized cleaning products.

Do not judge.

If you have been a reader of Everyday Edits for more than three minutes you know I love cleaning supplies. There is something about a gallon of all-purpose vinegar that calms me.

I had to get creative gallon handles of cleaning vinegar because of our sink.

Let me explain. When we remodeled our kitchen a few years ago I wanted a farmhouse kitchen sink in the corner window.

KOHLER KITCHEN SINK

I know some of you are nodding and others are shaking your heads because this is a first-world problem. I did not realize that the ice rink-size space behind the Kohler sink and faucet was essentially a storage wasteland below the countertops. Because under that farmhouse sink was a poly-something-shaped cabinet “box.” t

If I pulled the sprayer out of the faucet it unplugged the disposal. Why? Because my Costco case of dishwasher tabs caught on the power cord attached to the disposal.

Know your why before buying cleaning products in bulk.

My husband’s solution was to store the dishwasher tabs on the counter. That was not an option so I combined my love for repurposing glass bottles and stored bulk-size cleaning products under the sink.

CUTE IDEA TO STORE BULK CLEANING PRODUCTS

PURCHASE HABITS

  • What do you buy in bulk?
  • Does a Costco-size bag of baking soda calm you?
  • How often is it used? Or does that matter?
  • Do you start to sweat when your 64-ounce bottle of concentrated wood floor cleaner is almost halfway empty?
  • Do you only buy paper products in bulk?
  • Where do you store them?

SPACE LIMITATIONS

Our daughter and her husband (my favorite son-in-law) live in a 760-square-foot condo in downtown Denver. I think she stores their paper products s in the trunk of her car next to their skis.

My under-sink storage has a height and width restriction. It is impossible to store my handle-size dish soap and cleaning vinegar under my sink.

EASY STORAGE IDEAS FOR CLEANING SUPPLIES

Because of my Farmhouse sink situation, there is very little room for anything taller than 9″ under my sink.

STORAGE IDEAS FOR GALLON-SIZE CLEANERS

  1. Save cute glass bottles.
  2. Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, and Homegoods have the cutest shaped juice and chocolate milk bottles. Homegoods is another place to look for glass bottles to repurpose.
  3. Look for narrow or mason-size jars for under-sink storage.
  4. I remove labels.

I buy the Costco or generic brand of dish soap and then transfer the contents to a narrow jar like these repurposed glass chocolate milk glasses.

Mason jars or recycled jam jars (with a wide mouth) are great for storing the dishwasher tabs. I keep the original container in our repurposed entry closet (one of my favorite projects).

  1. Great tips! I’m definitely running into some storage solutions with our downsizing. I’m wondering if we can still keep buying in bulk at Costco. This gives me some inspo! Happy Friday!
