BEHIND THE SCENES OF OUR BATHROOM REMODEL

It was so clean and pretty I did not want my college-age sons to use their bathroom after we completed the bathroom remodel.  The towel racks were installed and the Bath & Body Works foam soaps were positioned neatly next to the new brushed nickel faucets. It was too pretty to be used by two college-age boys.

This is what the bathroom looked like before our oldest left for college. This is what two adolescent, product-loving young men can do to a bathroom before school. 

Their pre-bathroom remodel resembled a stylist’s station after a 12-hour day workday (with a random quart of paint).

BEFORE

• This is what real life looks like with kids.
• where the boys graduated from tubbies (tub baths) to showers
• spelling words were spelled out while brushing their teeth

Besides the vanity, the constants in their bathroom were wet towels on the floor and empty toilet paper rolls- apparently too heavy to toss into the trash.

And their conversations at the end of each day. 

Oh and check out the frame around the bathroom mirror. My older son could not wrap his head around why they needed a framed mirror. What was wrong with just the mirror?

I love the memories, but I am excited to share the DIY bathroom remodel. We wanted a bathroom that mirrored (get it) their next chapters and could serve as a future guest bathroom for overnight guests.

It was time to remove the puppy towel hooks and the Halloween-themed vinyl on the toilet.

DIY BATHROOM REMODEL TIPS

After completing two bathroom remodels we opted to hire a demo crew to take out the shower and floor tile, tub, toilet, sinks, and vanity. It was worth every dollar and the entire demo was completed in seven hours.

FINISHED BATHROOM REMODEL

For this DIY bathroom remodel we replaced the following:

• tub and toilet
• tile shower
• dual vanity cabinet
• flooring
• faucets + lighting

DUAL SINK VANITY

We switched the builder-grade oak finish vanity with this vanity from Wayfair.

With the switch from almond to white sinks, toilet, and tub the bathroom looks so much brighter.

We planned to update the bathroom floor tile to complement the shower tile but switched to luxury vinyl. Oh my gosh, vinyl flooring saved time and our backs. We ended up using the same flooring in the laundry room which is on the same level as the kids’ bedrooms.

This is our favorite bathroom remodel. Hiring a demo crew was the best decision with the flooring change a close second.
